...there has been a progression from strong-man rule to democracy in all the modern countries we know....Europe and the United States are the beneficiaries of that progression....for centuries Europe was ruled by one Qhaddafi or Hussein after another until things evolved over time...the US never had strong-man rule so we have little understanding of the natural progression these things entail...we think everyone is just "Born Again" into full-blown Democracy.....we don;t know our own painful history before we brought it all to the New World.

How many bastard Dukes and Lords and Princes did Europe have to endure before Magna Charta and Parliamentery rule? How would Europeans have responded if some advanced country had invaded them and told them to speed it up?

The Middle East is going through the same long, slow process of political maturity. They aren't "backwards", no more than Germany was when it responded violently to the Enlightenment or France during the Age of Reason when censorship and the executioner were busy keeping law and order.

These things take time and they aren't helped any by neo-colonialism or the hunger for the resources of other people.
