...so much of what has embroiled our world since the 1920s was fear of, it has many names...a. socialism b. organized labor c. unions d. any sort of progressive ideas dealing with the good of the population as a whole and of course the big "C"...not cancer but Communism. It didn't help that Communism was also atheistic....that seemed to clinch it.

In a book about Charles Darwin I read that the captain of the Beagle, plus many Euros believed that Christianity and Civilization were one and the same (that could have been Hitchens' problem at the end). Even today to not believe in any gods makes one suspect, as a human bean and citizen in good standing.

The basic fear of Capitalists is the same as it was for European aristocracy...fear of true democracy whereby the people actually choose what they want and not what the aristocrats want...enter Fascism...the method of getting people, fooling people really, to vote not their own interests but those of the ruling class in the belief, like faith in god, that they are one and the same....it's good for, and is the same as, both a mechanic and a billionaire not to pay taxes, that sort of thing. They are "united" in a "common interest"....except the billionaire can afford a whole lot of things, basic things, which the common human bean can't.

That's all this has been about...one long drawn out and dirty fight to curb, or undo and prevent the common human bean from living a comfortable life free from the trumped up "emergencies" and dangers which keep us all in line...that's all.

The Wiemar Republic was a good and recent example of how a free people with a democratic/republican form of government wherein they elect representatives can be subverted into a Fascist State, through "free" elections....wait for it.
