- The deal was that they'd set him free, but deport him to Sicily - which is where they needed him to manage the Sicilian unions in charge of the shipping ports. During this period, he spent an unusual amount of time in Havana looking after his gambling and prostitution interests, and also meeting with the heads of other families. After the war, and about a decade or so after the CIA and FBI got most of what they could out of him, he died mysteriously in Sicily. The official report says heart attack, but insiders suspect he was poisoned.
