...oh. I never consider religion a source for anything but dogma and error...if you say Voodoo gives a spiritual basis, and then I ask for "proof" and you quote back the Manual on Voodoo...I suppose I asked for it...but you introduced religion and spiritual things...Gay people are merely talking about the contract...the legal right to marry extended to all other American citizens....religion has no place in that.

...or ever. That argument can be used anyone someone tried to outlaw slavery...or child labor...or banning women from the vote..."if you change this, then that MIGHT happen...someday."

...can't be. Religion has sanctioned polygamy throughout history, even among Christians. But for now it is illegal in America...and that's good enough for the rest of us...personally I don't care. Straight people have had 2000 years to bring us to this point in marriage...and now you want to warn us that Gay people could ruin it???? Give them the same chance Straight people have had...they can't do any worse.

>Yes that's what I was saying. I was talking about the legal aspect of marriage, not personal.

...there is no basis in our Law to deny an equal right to a citizen...if it is legal for one citizen, it must be legal for the other....men and women are allowed to marry...there is no legal impediment to Gay people being married...or there won;t be soon.

> if lawmakers want to legalize something some day, the Supreme Court of that day will have to pass on it...and if the People are content to make those choices...they will. You can't control the future...but that's a non-argument. The issue is TODAY, not "some day".

>When posed this topic, I had in mind “some day”, not today. This topic is directly linked to the “absolute versus relative morality” debate.

...the same can be said for abolishing slavery...who knows what might happen down the line? You can be afraid if you want to...but a law abiding society will just have to abide by its laws and take its chances...

>Okay. Next topic. What's in the menu? How about one of these: Atheism versus all religions (later) - Capital punishment – Abortion - Free market system versus controlled economy - Syrian “uprising” - Cloning (Sounds cool) - Animal rights - Atheists rights...etc

...I'll take the economy. Leave god to those who believe in him, or it.
