I have to agree with Pancho.

Take away the flourish of language, intellect, religion and what's left is something basic, simple, and universal: compassion.

Again- how do we live with ourselves keeping others from bettering their lives, bettering the world, creating a more just and compassionate space in which all men and women and children may benefit from the same rights as others?

What is the big threat to the religious/conservative community anyway? Any old straight person can procreate in and out of marriage, divorce, cheat, lie, steal, drag each other through emotionally and financially exhausting divorce proceedings, but gay marriage is a threat? To what? To whom?

Really, what is the big hangup? That's what I want to know. Don't give me what the church says and thinks- why do you oppose human rights? What's YOUR personal beef?
