I met Aprim only once....a mutual friend introduced us at a Modesto convention....he and I had been discussing the Shumirum Monument and all the difficulty we were having from Nimrod over installing it in Chicago....Aprim joined us for breakfast and a bit into the conversation grandly offered to give me $100 towards the project. With very slight and friendly sarcasm I said something about not needing such generous donations, or maybe it as that the monument was already paid for, that the problem was something else...anyway I found out later that he had been highly insulted by my attitude....naturally, being a snob, he thought I was being snobbish...but we had gratefully accepted such small donations in the past...I guess what I slightly resented was the magnanimous way he was "giving me" such an amount.

Then I started running across him on aina, the black eye of assyria....his sloppy scholarship and outright lies, plus crybaby ways were funny and annoying, especially as he was seen as some great asset to this ditzy nayshun....he managed to get many of us banned but not before I told about our tryst in a toilet which sent him to Syria for a year.

The last time I saw him was a few years back at a function in San Jose...I was standing right by the only open door leading to a conference room and as he approached I held out my hand and said he should bend with the wind or else he'd snap...he replied that he had nothing to say to me....oh yeah, one other time at a lecture at UC Berkeley given by an Assyriologist in their department...I can't remember the exact exchange but Aprim asked what was supposed to be a "deep" question....I followed with a comment and all I remember is the room bursting with laughter....at him.

Poor fellow, he takes himself so seriously as a "scholar" when he's just a petty propagandist....like Rosie Malek-Yonan and that Andre fellow....these people have no sense of humor, but they sure are funny.
