Why The Kennedy Assassination Matters

It matters so much because it was the tipping point from an age of our innocence to where we are today, after Bush and just before Obama validates the Bush Doctrine...nice Black man that he is (so was Colin Powell).

Jim Garrison, New Orleans District Attorney, who actually brought conspiracy suspects to trial, was an FBI man once himself...also a fighter pilot during WW II and a major in the reserves....yet after a certain point in the investigation into Oswald and his circle, he said he never again took the government’s word at face value...and it saddened him. But the government gave him no choice by its double-dealing and lies.

Kennedy’s assassination and the Vietnam War blended together and shattered the trust of an entire generation...and a good thing too. We stopped believing our government...we began to think that the CIA and FBI were governments unto themselves who dealt in dirty tricks and of course lied about it. They may have told themselves they were protecting us and the country, but they were protecting themselves first...their jobs, their status....all of which required “enemies”...and when all else failed, we became the enemy...as we still are in emergencies.

If the government truly had nothing to hide those documents wouldn’t have been sealed for 75 years. It takes no more than that to cast everything they say about who killed Kennedy into doubt...and it’s their own doing, not something any of us want. You want to believe your parents, your teachers and government. It makes life so much easier and safer, at least you feel safer than you would if you thought they were all lying to you. But if the ARE lying, then it’s best to realize and admit and take necessary precautions.

That’s why understanding the cover-up, the sloppy investigation, the determination formed ahead of time to reach a lone-assassin theory, in spite of all contradictions, is so important...because from that point we had to learn to trust ourselves more and the government less. Which is no different than when the Founding Fathers lost faith in King George.

I may not have the answers and never be able to find them...but that’s mostly because the government has locked away what are probably the most significant pieces of evidence. If they thought that by doing that I would somehow be content, or forced, to accept their version....they were sadly mistaken.

This is the United States, not a banana republic....yet.
