...I had it every time I heard criticism of Islam...and I never understood the reason....Hitchens, or one of them, would be cruising along slamming the Old Testicles or Christianity and I'd be fine with it...even laugh and cheer at the good points raised against...but if the word "Islam" came into the discussion I immediately felt myself hostile, even to turning off the sound or switching channels. Why? Was I a hypocrite...was I prejudiced against Judaism and Christianity but a secret lover of Islam...and didn't know it?

It wasn't till a few days ago that I realized why I became hostile at any hostility directed at Islam...and it was because I could sense, without directly knowing it, that I was being set up...I was being made to hate a religion, in this case Islam...and the reason for that was because my country, a Christian country, was murdering innocent Muslims who'd merely reacted against the crimes committed against them, as any people would do.

I was being manipulated into a hating people for their religion, which then played itself out with drone strikes and torture and other ghastly things, very like those German Christians did to Jews just a few decades ago.

You see, it isn't really a neutral or even academic or intellectual discussion where Islam is concerned...and that's because we are waging war against Muslims and need to justify ourselves.

Christianity is top dog...you aren't going to incite violence against Christians by laughing at Jesus...but you CAN arouse violence by laughing at Muhammad, and so Christians do exactly that...and not because they want to have free speech, but because they need to raise the level of fear and hatred against Islam...and so they provoke the weakest-minded Muslims into striking back, which then makes them feel justified in murdering hundreds.

Where a single Muslim chopped the head off a Danish cartoonist, the Christian response to such a "horror" has been to bomb and kill and starve hundreds of thousands of Muslims...acts which are condoned by us because "LOOK at what that one Muslim did"!

Whether intentional or not, these critiques against Islam are like the ones leveled by Christians (who else) against Jews just recently...the same stereotyping, the same slanders and lies and the same blaming-the-victim for our crimes against them.

It's not an "academic debate" at all...it is pure incitement to violence, JUST as was done against Jews...and we know where that led.
