....that they always knew they were assyrians, even though they never called themselves that till after the discoveries of the 19th century....my family, and every other one, always called themselves Syrians, "Suraye", never "Aturaye"...Joseph has spoken about how these fools say that "Syrian" used to have an "A" in front of it, but that initial "A" was "lost"...to be "discovered" recently...but, let's agree with them...they were ALWAYS assyrians.....

...how then do they explain that for centuries they lived on top of and beside those famous mounds where the Euros eventually dug the Assyrian treasures from without ever showing the slightest interest in what lay beneath? Why did it take curious Brits and Germans and Frenchmen and Americans to show interest and do the digging? After all, it was simple workmen, maybe many of them local so-called Assyrians, who did the actual discovering?...didn't take a European to work a shovel...they ALL knew how to do that already...how come they didn't? How come they were ONLY interested in the Jewish bible?

How come Aprim and his ancestors weren't eagerly digging round those mounds to find the ruins of "their" ancient ancestors? And how come Aprim and Taco couldn't read the cuneiform, Assyrian/Akkadian language written on those tablets...how come Beth-Shlimon knew Arabic but NOT the real Assyrian language...how come it took Euros to also do that for us? Just how interested WERE we in this supposed heritage of ours? The true answer is that we weren't, because we knew nothing about being "Assyrians"...not till the Euros called us that as a way of splitting us away from our Muslim neighbors...like we were something special that ONLY the Euros recognized and respected...so you can imagine how eager Taco was to become "Assyrian" and get all that man-love from white people.

....if you dip a shovel into almost any square foot of Iraq you find Assyrian and other artifacts...when the British Museum sent an expedition back to Iraq to find the other half of the Gilgamesh tablet, damned if they didn't find the other half the SECOND day they were there and barely a couple of feet down.....and those mounds hiding Nineveh, or the palaces of Ashurbanipal and Shlamanessar...they were right there all those centuries, sticking up out of the flat plain...and not a single assyrian EVER was curious to dig up HIS ancestors...even though "we always knew" we were related to them?

...give us a break!
