Ethnic:

a: of or relating to large groups of people classed according to common racial, national, tribal, religious, linguistic, or cultural origin or background <ethnic minorities> <ethnic enclaves>

...this makes "ethnic" almost meaningless...who can't be classed according to a common, "racial, national, tribal, religious, linguistic or cultural origin or background"? Who? An Italian? A Hottentot? A Basque? Every human bean on this planet falls into at least one of those categories. The truth is we are all of one race, and one ethncitiy:Human...there are VARIATIONS in characteristics...but we are ALL "ethnic"....or have ethnicity....means nothing any more. Christians are an ethnic group....Christians who SAY they are Assyrians are another ethnic group...so? So are Iraqis....so are Muslim Iraqis...where's the meaningful distinction that is "ethnic"? religious, yes, but "ethnic"?

Nation:

a : of or relating to large groups of people classed according to common racial, national, tribal, religious, linguistic, or cultural origin or background <ethnic minorities> <ethnic enclaves>

...okay, so there are bigger and smaller nations...and Iraq is a bigger nation than are the Christians who call themselves Iraqi Assyrians...give us an example where a larger nation gave anything of its own to a smaller nation and I'll tell you all about America and Native Americans.

b : a community of people composed of one or more nationalities and possessing a more or less defined territory and government c : a territorial division containing a body of people of one or more nationalities and usually characterized by relatively large size and independent status.

Christians who say they are Assyrians do not allow for any other nationalities, they don't even allow for another religion besides Christianity...they have no defined territory, and never did(Remember, all they are accepted as is Christians who SAY they are Assyrians, and these people NEVER had their own territory.)....and no government, as any sane person would define it.

Christian assyrians meet none of these criteria for "nation"...but then they have their own dictionaries.
