...this is exactly where our rampant capitalism leads....a company such as VW needs ever increasing profits in order to sell stocks and give good returns...selling stocks and good returns inevitably becomes the company's goal...not the products they sell. If they can increase stock value by putting out shitty stuff, they will...if they have to cheat in order to sell product, they will....the business model is no longer "make good stuff"...it's "make good money"...any way you can get away with.

The only thing which slightly protects the rest of us, and our planet, is serious regulation, which is why neo-cons have been attacking the whole notion for a few decades...the problem for the modern age, they tell us, is not cheating and climate change, but too many regulations, in other words too much scrutiny and rules.

Too bad for VW and all the rest of them that these regulations hadn't been scrapped...but many have.

It's madness, sheer madness disguised as an "economy".
