Annual Memorial Walk *PIC*

Posted By: Gaby
Date: Sunday, 17 July 2011, at 5:00 a.m.

You are invited to attend the Annual Memorial Walk in remembrance of the Assyrian 1918 forced Exodus from Urmia to Baqubah, a distance of 1000 kilometers that began on the first of August. This may not seem a great feat by today’s standards but it was done under fire with little or no food and water, over 25,000 died on that trek, mostly children that could not be carried or the elderly too weak to outrun the enemy on horseback. It is estimated another 5,000 Armenians died on the same trek, this number may be much higher.

This walk of Remembrance will begin [outside] St Mary’s Church on Polding Street, appropriate since many children were in Church before fleeing and will continue through the main street in Fairfield and it will end at Fairfield Park where Tea will be served.

This is a solemn occasion, no politics or profiteering will be allowed.

This year a donation however small will be asked of participants and those who wish to donate and are unable to walk, this money will be directly sent to an orphanage or a school in Iraq through a registered Assyrian relief organization.

Date; Saturday 6 August.

Time; 10 AM

Duration; 30 minutes.

God Bless those who fell and those who never forget.

...THIRTY MINUTES!!!!???? Thank god they're serving tea. I can't think of a single commemoration of any kind that lasted all of 30 minutes. What a joke.
