...never new this....the Confederacy was staunchly for state's rights...each state was sovereign, free and all that stuff....and yet when they started their war for slavery they immediately passed the first conscription law of any nation...so much for principles.....on top of that they passed a law that anyone who owned 20 slaves was exempt from service....as one soldier put it..."It was a rich man's war but a poor man's fight"...ain't they all.
