...this is something I can't understand....television sitcoms in which the family NEVER watches TV...never does what every family REALLY does at night and on weekends...Never do what the families on TV do, which is sit around talking about feelings and thoughts and ideas and relationships and manners and behavior etc. It would be nice if American families did these things, but they don't...instead they watch TV about people who are NOTHING like them....why? What possible relevance is there between TV families and the families glued to their sets WATCHING families that have nothing in common with them?

Most American families and couples lead boring, disconnected lives built around shopping and watching TV and other media...however, a show that showed real family life would bore people to tears, especially the people who saw themselves accurately portrayed on TV. The argument is made that this is entertainment, that people want to FORGET how they actually live in favor of a fantasy.

Is this the best Americans can do? Lead lives, for years, which bore them so much they need to spend all their waking, leisure, hours trying to forget the reality they constructed?

No wonder people are so unhappy and drug infused.
