Certainly there was self interest involved...but I remember people being beaten rather badly for protesting and serving jail time too...not everyone ran to Canada and they didnīt draft women then yet a lot of the protesters were women and girls. I certainly would have run to Canada. I wrote a note on the back of my draft card to a lady friend who wasnīt home when I called and never saw it again.

But I believe there was genuine concern that the Vietnam War, aside from killing innocent people and blasting a segment of the American population was morally wrong and a bad direction for America to head even farther in. Americans need to become totally cynnical about their government ESPECIALLY when it is at its most patriotic and positive.

The lesson wasnīt learned well...when DO humans learn except by paying a high price...the price hasnīt been anywhere near high enough for Americans yet. So, is it self interest or morality that stops this madness...I donīt care...just so it stops. If Americans donīt know itīs wrong to kill children half a world away who never did them any harm...if they donīt know that their leadership, especially the corporate types NEED enemies and devils for the future growth of the Arms Industry, which is Americaīs biggest export and cash cow...if they canīt learn the lesson that way...then let them learn it when the great life promised them in America turns to ashes in their mouths...one way or another, a tyrant, a dictator, a killer, always loses...itīs just that he takes a lot of us with him...and in this case...a lot of YOU.
