I hate to break it to you, but the ultra-conservative "Christian" types here - the 700 Club types - they absolutely HATE the Germans. Met a bunch of them who do - has to do w/ them, their parents, & their grandparents fighting in WWII - they STILL call the Germans Nazi's here. It's very sad - how many people can they hate? The ultra-conservative Christian right here is insane - they hate everyone who isn't like them. & the rich, among that group, are the ones who egg on the poor among them - making the poor into their soldiers & trash talking only certain big government measures (though, the rich benefit from big government more so than the poor - for a perfect example on a smaller government scale, see what happened w/ the Tennessee state income tax debate).
Another thing - I heard someone saying that the main reason the US gov't won't aggressively go after the North Korean gov't like it is doing w/ Saddam's regime is precisely BECAUSE North Korea has nuclear weapons - the US gov't doesn't want to be on the receiving end of a nuclear war.
