: I *heard* (so don't quote me on this figure) that there were at least 500,000 protesting in DC today... & there MUST be about that many protesting in San Francisco. When do we get the official count?

+++ Hi Sadie,

Go also to "What Really Happened" for constant updates of independent coverage of the protests.
Many pics & linx.

Here's an excerpt:

TODAY'S HEADLINES 1/18/2003

YOU SHOULD ALL BE VERY PROUD OF YOURSELVES.

REMEMBER THIS DAY. THIS DAY WE ALL SAW HISTORY MADE BEFORE OUR EYES. NEVER BEFORE HAVE SO MANY PEOPLE IN SO MANY NATIONS STOOD TOGETHER FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF PREVENTING A WAR..

DESPITE THE MEDIA'S OBVIOUS AND HEAVY-HANDED ATTEMPTS TO DOWNPLAY THE SIZE OF TODAY'S PROTESTS (AS WELL AS UNDERMINE THEIR EFFECT WITH BOGUS POLLS CLAIMING 87% OF AMERICANS SUPPORT THE WAR), THE FACT IS THAT TODAY'S PROTESTS SET RECORDS. THE DC PROTEST MAY HAVE HAD A HALF MILLION, THE SAN FRANCISCO PROTEST AS MUCH AS A QUARTER MILLION. HUNDREDS OF SMALLER PROTESTS HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN REPORTED IN THE MEDIA AT ALL.

AMERICANS HAVE SHOWN THE WORLD THAT THE US GOVERNMENT NO LONGER SPEAKS FOR OR ACTS FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. BUSH AND HIS FELLOW WAR BUFFS HAVE LOST THE ILLUSION OF PUBLIC SUPPORT. THE MEDIA'S BOGUS POLLS SHOWING 60 AND 80 PERCENT SUPPORT FOR THE WAR ARE LIES. HOW DO WE KNOW THIS? WHERE WERE THOSE PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN AND SUPPORT THE WAR TODAY? EFFORTS WERE MADE TO FORM PRO-WAR DEMONSTRATIONS. FREE REPUBLIC CLAIMS THEY GOT 400 PEOPLE TO SHOW UP IN DC. 400 AGAINST 400,000 IS NOT 60 OR 80 PERCENT SUPPORT, IT IS A TINY FRACTION OF A SINGLE PERCENTAGE POINT. IT IS A ROUTE. IT IS AM EMBARRASSMENT.

TODAY PROVED BUSH DOES NOT REPRESENT THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES WHEN HE MAKES WAR. THE MOMENT BUSH ATTACKS IRAQ HE ATTACKS EVERYTHING THE UNITED STATES EVER STOOD FOR, EVERY DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLE THE GOVERNMENT CLAIMED TO UPHOLD, EVEN THE VERY FOUNDATIONS OF THE NATION LAID DOWN BY THE FOUNDING FATHERS.

LINCOLN SAID IT BEST, "A NATION OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, AND FOR THE PEOPLE".

THE PEOPLE DO NOT WANT WAR, MR. BUSH.

1/18/03 Freepers cry in the beer over today's protests. Here's the thing. Free Republic claimed they got 400 protestors to stand against the half-million that showed up against the war. Well, if those 400 (eyewitnesses put the number of Freepers much lower) really believe in the war then why are they still here? Why aren't they in BDU's and carrying a rifle along the border of Iraq? The reason why is simple. They don't really believe in this war. What they want is for someone ELSE to fight the war and then die leaving the plunder for those who stayed behind.
