Plaid MP says Wales would be better represented by France

Ceredigion MP Simon Thomas is expected to claim tonight that Wales' voice
in the world was being better represented by France than by the British
government because the vast majority of Wales was against a war on Iraq.

Following the news that a city in South Australia want to defect to France
in a protest against the Australian Government's support of a war against
Iraq, Mr Thomas will tell a public meeting organised by Plaid Cymru in
Neuadd Emlyn, Newcastle Emlyn that Welsh foreign affairs had more in common
with France's, and that the French Government's position on Iraq better
resembled Wales' than that of Tony Blair's.

Mr Thomas is expected to say:

"Wales is undoubtedly with France on the Iraq issue. While a second UN
resolution might indeed be legal, that does not make the war any more just,
and will only worsen the humanitarian crisis in Iraq."

"While the world is pre-occupied with Bush and Blair's bullying of Iraq the
situation is worsening by the day in Israel and Palestine; North Korea is
rapidly increasing its stockpile of Weapons of Mass Destruction, and a
human catastrophe is about to take place in Ethiopia - these are the issue
that our Governments should be dealing with."

Diwedd/Ends.
