I wasn't making an argument against Saddam. I’ve even made a similar point as you, that Saddam is not worse than Bush, in several posts before. I agree with you: this "war" has NOTHING to do with Saddam - it part of a process of setting up the people of Iraq to accept whatever regime the U.S. government wants to put there next. The ex-pats are ALL dupes. I was trying to point out the propaganda: like you said, if the U.S. really wanted Saddam out, there are ways they could have done it WITHOUT bombing the hell out of the country. BUT, now that they've started upping the bombings (from a mere daily bombing in the north or south to a constant barrage, anywhere they please), the U.S. has NO intention of stopping. The U.S. government will use, publicly *here* in the States, "hunting" Saddam as the excuse for keeping troops in Iraq (because you have to provide an excuse for the American public with boys abroad). This is what they are doing in Afghanistan.

Concerned wife: "Why isn't Johnny coming home?"

U.S. military bureaucrat: "Because we need him in Iraq to hunt down Saddam, ma'am, because Saddam's evil." OR “Because we need him in Afghanistan to hunt down Osama, because Osama’s evil.”

This is how the U.S. government occupies another nation & makes it *seem* legitimate to the citizens of the U.S.
