: Let's think about PRE-war Germany & Japan - both were states known for incredibly nationalist tendencies... how much *internal* turmoil was there, even after WWII?

xxx not "post-war," but "pre-war."

xxx I guess I'm just trying to point out, once more, that post-"war" Iraq will most likely be more like post-"war" Afghanistan than post-war Germany or Japan. So, which is it: does the U.S. government want to set up a "democracy" in Iraq, so that a "benevolent" government, supported by brain-washed masses, will actually hide the power structure well, etc. & allow the nation to recover economically OR does the U.S. government want to see another tyranny in Iraq? The first choice would enable the U.S. government to control Iraq longer under one regime.... but the second choice would grant faster "stability" to a regime when that regime is in control of a people who have been set against each other for so long...

What does anyone else think? Am I being blind or stupid?
