Esarhaddon is the Henry Layards incorrect English tranliteration of Ashurhaddon.
Ashur-haddon is the Akkadian = Ashur [has] given [a] brother.

The problem lies with an incomplete understanding of our Kings when they were initially discovered.

Our Kings were literally "Gods on earth" or "The Sons of Gods."
Their names would all be derived from our main Assyrian and Babylonian Gods.

A look at the Assyrian and Babylonian King lists shows that nearly all our Kings had the name of one or more ancient Gods in their names. e.g. King Shamshi-Adad.

Gods List
=========
Shamash = Assyrian sun God.
Sin = Assyrian moon God.
Ishtar = Godess of Love and War.
Ashur = Supreme Assyrian diety.
Adad = Assyrian God of Thunder (Lightening).
Nabu = God of writing.
Marduk = Supreme babylonian diety. (Equivalent of Ashur)

Therefore names such as;
Nebuchadnezzar should be Nabu-chadnezzar.
Merodach-Baladan should be Marduk-Baladan.

AND, of course,

Esarhaddon should be Ashur-haddon.
