I agree with you whole heartedly about humanity's narcicisstic self obsessions. Although catharsis can be reached after one expresses pain or anger...
From a Marxist perspective this could be due to the alienation of humans under the current golbal context of capitalism, where society and human social relations have almost disappeared and the support people once got is now gone.
Narcissism also manifests itself differently in western capitalist society because people basically have the luxury and leisure time to bemoan their losses and lament over their desire. Workers in other countries are either too hungry, too tired or too busy fighting the system...

I want you to relate every comment you just made about Evanessence's lyrics to Assyrian national rhetoric...that if we don't get a homeland or a "country" we will die...a bit parasitic don't you think? Maybe our nation will make the cathartic evolution required for a more internationalist stance...
