An ever-growing empire, with occasional setbacks, like the ones of the recent 300 years, including the recent secession of 12 or so states, like Azerbaidzan and Armenia and Tadzekistan. It will continue to expand, no doubt, and it is simply a matter of time. It went to war in Afghanistan to compete for oil gains in the mideast(with the US in competition with it, among some small other nations) but it failed, and shortly after, its economy failed as well, due to infrastructure weakness, and nothing else. Sometimes a big fat person trips because of their own weight.
Russia could've taken EU, but at the time, it was not prepared, so it only supported local communist factions and governments in EU. If it had been prepared, things would have been different.
