It'd be nice to see something like this across the country on June 20th...

Come to Celebrate WORLD REFUGEE DAY!!!!

WHEN: Thursday June 20, 2002, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

WHERE: Meridian Hill Park (a.k.a. Malcolm X Park) - corner of 16th and

Euclid Streets and

Josephine Butler Park Center - 2437 15th Street (behind
the park)

WHY:

To educate people about the experience of refugees in the United
States,
To build bridges of cross-cultural understanding among the refugee,
immigrant and larger DC-Metro
communities,
To empower the refugee, immigrant and DC-Metro communities advocate
for social change.

The theme for this year's World Refugee Day is "TOLERANCE", tolerance of

people from different parts of the world
and tolerance for the world refugee situation.

FEATURING:

A panel discussion on the "The Impact of 9/11 on refugees and
immigrants", moderated by Cece Modupe
Fadope from National Public Radio, (10:30 am - 12:00 pm)
A series of films ranging from the "The Lost Boys of Sudan" to hate
crimes against South Asians in "Raising
our Voices" to "Tolerance" by Rumi. (12:00 pm to 4:00 pm)
Entertainment, (2:00 pm to 5:00 pm)
Cuisine from around the world, (2:00 pm to 5:00 pm)
Story telling and interactive games, (1:00 pm to 5:00 pm)
A Photo Exhibit,
Free Immigration and legal advice,
Free International Tracing Services,
and more...
