Do you think all is lost? Assyrians are cursed? There's no hope? We're outnumbered? We have no resources? No power? The world doesn't care about Assyrians? The world hates us? Do you feel like giving up and giving in? Good! If most Assyrians feel this way, then that is really wonderful news! Why? Simple, because that means we've reached bottom and now there is only one direction that we can go in and that's up, up, up! Screw the rest of the world. Why have we been so preoccupied with what other people think about us? Why should we care if the entire world ignores us or even hates us? It's time to stop thinking and start doing. Okay, so now you want me to tell you what we should do. Sure, I'll tell you in less than one sentence. Love your people. That's it. That's the answer in a nutshell. If you can't do that, then forget about Assyria, just pick up your marbles and go home, because we're all washed up. What does it mean to love your people? Well, to begin with it means you must love all of your people unconditionally, all of them: the good, the bad, the indifferent, the rich, the poor, the educated, the illiterate, the proud, the humble. Forget about personalities. Take all of the Assyrian people collectively and love them. Love them so much that you are willing to die for them. Love them so much that you are willing to sacrifice for them. Love them so much that you are willing to give of yourself to them, your talents, your time, your effort. Believe in their future, whether you live to see it or not. Whatever each of us does, no matter how small, it will contribute to the whole. Now, here are some big ideas for those Assyrians with big hearts and heroic determination and a willingness to sacrifice. Most Assyrians living in the Western world (America, Europe, Australia) will not be too inclined to leave their comfortable existence to risk life and limb to fight for their nation in northern Iraq. That's okay. There is still something each of us can do, wherever we are. First, we should establish a global Assyrian Militia to protect Assyrian interests and also to give credibility to an Assyrian Government in exile. We can assemble and show to the world that we have a Government in Exile that is comprised of talented and competent people. We have thousands of professional people that can project a positive image to represent the global Assyrian Community before the world. If and when the opportunity presents itself, the West would be overjoyed to be able to install a Christian, democratic government in Northern Iraq and they would gladly back it with financial, technical and military support. Look, I don't have all the answers. Individually, none us will, but together we can try by putting our best effort forward. We may never see the results of our efforts, but unless we begin today, our children will be even further removed from the dream of a new Assyria, than we are. We must stop whining and complaining. We have the means to accomplish our goal, all we really need is the will and God will supply the rest. Have faith brothers and sisters, we can do this!
