Just remember, before there was a New York or a Paris or London...there was Baghdad, the most magnificent city of its day. And only a little north of there are the ruins of Babylon, a city so old it makes your skin tingle. The Cradle of Civilization is being destroyed by an American cheerleader who wagged his ass in front of his college football team.

The Christian religion...the birth of Judaism, the golden years of Islam...all of them are intimately connected to that one small, defenseless part of the world.

Who would dare discuss bombing Paris or Rome as casually as Americans contemplate bombing Baghdad, the magnificent city of the One Thousand and One Nights...the city of Haroun Al Rashid, as if there was nothing there worth the saving. Who indeed.
