This argument is the one of choice when the very systems you would praise are being gutted by those who would never have had the wisdom or insight or intellect to create such systems.
You're right Doc...the American ideal of Democracy is indeed the best system going...or one of the best certainly...that is PRECISELY the reason we are upset over here and protesting the attack being mounted against it by people who use the Constitution as a weapon to destroy the Constitution. Being "better than" oppressive societies should not be our standard of measurement...our ideals and capacities should be...that's what made us "different" in the first place.
Just because the rest of the world is more oppressive...is no reason to guide what levels of oppression we should tolerate here. If that continues the best among us will judge his behavior by the worst among us...something like, "in Persia they rape five year olds...but we wait till they're ten...aren't we the better people"???
