One could easily make the connection that both the definition of man & the morality implicit in the concept of "progressive evolution" is perhaps one that stems from the traditional Judeo-Christian notion that the earthly physical manifestation of God is man & from the Judeo-Christian value system (which was also moulded by & influential in the cultures that accepted those belief systems, which I crudely visualize as a sort of feed-forward cycle/mechanism).
