Iran ready to participate in Iraq reconstruction: FM Tehran, Oct 25, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said here Saturday that Iran is ready to participate in the reconstruction of Iraq. Talking to IRNA at Mehrabad International Airport upon arrival from Madrid where he attended the International Donors` Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq, Kharrazi said the United Nations should play a decisive role in Iraq. He outlined Iran`s stance on Iraq`s security and transfer of power to the people`s representatives and currently to the Governing Council and said, "The United Nations should modify regulations to transfer the government to representatives of the Iraqi nation." Pointing to Iran`s economic cooperation and participation in reconstruction of Iraq, the minister added Iran can create a 0.5 billion dollar income annually in Iraq through promoting tourism industry and dispatching pilgrims to that country. He said Iranian companies can also create transit income in Iraq through promotion of transportation, adding Iran is ready to offer transit services to Iraq via its ports. Kharrazi noted that the Abadan refinery has the capacity to refine 350,000 barrels of Iraqi oil per day and offer the country`s oil to foreign customers in the Persian Gulf in order to export the Iraqi oil. He said Iranian companies are ready to offer services in the fields of gas and electricity to the Iraqi nation and added that the Iranian government has granted a 300 million dollar credit to Iraq to use Iranian goods and services. World countries and European states welcomed Iran`s signing the Additional Protocol to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, said the minister, adding Iran predicts promising prospects for the country in Europe and the world. International donors pledged at least $33 billion in aid and loans over the next four years to help rebuild war-ravaged Iraq on Friday. Tehran promised a credit facility of up to $300 million, offered cross-border electricity and gas supplies and said it would let Iraq export oil through Iranian terminals.
