...trying to work something out here...hypnotism used to be very popular and sort of exotic back in the 20's, 30's and 50's even. I never believed I could be hypnotized or mesmerized, as it was also called, because I'm not prone to following the suggestions of others especially when I know they're trying to gain mastery over me...and waving that damn thing in my face is a real turn-off. But what used to thrill people the most about it was that you could get someone to do what they ordinarily would never dream of doing...just by inducing a hypnotic trance...and the best part, or scarriest, was that you could set them up so that days later or weeks and months too...you could snap them back into a trance and under your power, deprived of their own "free" will, by repeating a key word or phrase that you'd sort of implanted into their subconscious while they'd been under your spell....like even over the telephone or having them see the word or phrase written out on a napkin...or it could even be the sound of church bells...did you say...CHURCH???

And the best example people would give about how powerfully the suggestions worked at getting you to do what you never would without them, even to the point of your ignoring physical pain and other things that caused discomfort or were otherwise distasteful to you when not under a hypnotic trance...was the eating of a raw onion as if it was an apple...and enjoying it immensely. My parents witnessed such a demonstation and it was done on a friend of theirs so they knew it was no trick. Not only did she bite and crunch on a white onion the size of a healthy apple...eating a good half of it and insisting it was the best apple she ever ate...but she then ate several cloves of garlic believing them to be grapes. Of course she smelled like a buzzard for weeks after and had horrible pains in her stomach but good things hurt...like god for instance.

I've been mulling over this Christianity business, wondering about my own question, uttered to the void, about what it signifies when a religious and a moral system chooses, as a test of a believer's dedication and suitability, things that are otherwise repellent and abhorrent and go against every decent and almost insitinctive impulse to avoid, in us and our society..and choose those exact same things to make holy sacraments of and things "god" wants you to do when you'd be jailed or worse for doing them at any other time and for any other reason...like Cannibalism and Vampirism...and gets you believing, as Andy says, that this shows your committment to Perfectlove. And I was reminded of eating onions under a hypnotic trance, brought on by an implanted keyword, and how similar that is to when people turn savage when you mention their God...or call on them to defend their God from real or perceived threats, such as ignoring him and his "teachings" but going blissfully on your way for, "I am a Jealous God!".

Is it possible that the word "God" or even "Jesus" is a keyword used to snap people back into an hypnotic trance they're first placed into as children? Do religious people WANT so desperately to believe in gods and heavens and eternal life, as we know children are terrifed of dying or losing their parents and the church has come up with a horrifying account of what happens to lost souls in hell...also fit for children, that they unknowingly unhinge their reason...because their minds can't come up with any way out...any way to cheat death OR figure out what comes after. Surely people, children and those who would remain infantile so they can go on "believing", are overly eager to swallow this nonsense or else why would they? Are they sort of helpless to resist once certain conditions are met...like the implanting of the keywords and phrases that, when repeated properly, snap them back into a trance...an hynotic trance under whose influence they can act in those beastly and "puzzling" ways the Kid can't figure out and find a reason for except that they need MORE of the same crap that got them acting so damn bloody in the first place. Especially when you remember this entire edifice of "faith" rests on the say-so of five Jews 2000 years ago who claimed to see something fantastic that goes against all of our logic and sense..but since this logic and sense hasn't been able to assuage our BIG FEARS to our FEARS content, or answer our "Big Questions"...we NEED to believe and INSIST on it too and will therefore believe any idiocy no matter how blatant or what crimes we commit in its name in order to remain in good standing, simply because we NEED to be fooled and are willing to half make fools of ourselves to get the job done.

And if, under the spell and trance...as you can see Andy and the Kid drifting off into gooneyland when they try too hard to make sense of this, their normal, rational, non-trance induced disgust or abhorrence of something is suspended, or shut down or short-circuited, like say eating an onion raw and believing it to be an apple...or eating human meat and believing it to be a wafer, or the other way around...or honestly mistaking blood for wine or wine for blood...then what ELSE might they be willing to do that their sense of decency, propriety, fair play and the rest of those universal things we share with all decent people everywhere, Christian or not...would make them recoil from ordinarily?

Like how about developing a "policy" that comes out and SAYS that 5000 malnourished and left-to-suffer-in-agony and then starved to death innocent Assyrian children A MONTH for 13 years...is "acceptable"? And no one argues the point...not even the "Christian" clergy. This could explain why these aren't "fake" Christians doing this at all but REAL and TRUE Christians...who've been trained to give in to God...when you mention his name the right way...like when they're about to cannibalize a dead Jew...and turn what would be disgusting and unthinkable at any other time into a "Holy Sacrament".

I think the Yuckarist is a test, an initiation...if you can do this universally disgusting, consistently condemned and even ILLEGAL thing...if your mind doesn't rebel and your gorge doesn't rise at the idea...with HIM hanging up there above you in the rafters bleeding from the flesh you're about to eat...if you can do that and believe you just tasted wine and wafers, or that the wine and wafers are going to turn into his torn flesh and the blood issuing from them and NOT run screaming from the place...then you're set...you're ready, you're Christian through and through, ready to commit other beastly and ghastly things when the keyword "God" is uttered...and all you have to do is go back and listen again to how many times the word "God" was mentioned and invoked by generals and politicians and educators and businessmen and contractors during the whole Iraq War...because with every use of the keyword, Christians everywhere were going into their trance, the one that allows them to cannibalize a Jew...or starve to death an Assyrian child, or invent lies they KNOW are lies to go attack an entirely innocent nation, innocent of ever having harmed a hair on our pointy heads.

If the Kid or Andy or any other "moral" or "intellectual" person wants to "agonize" about the "puzzle" of how people can be so craven etc. when he hears the news or reads the paper, or looks around him...maybe he should look at the Yuckarist with new eyes...and not ones that are 2000 years old.

If you "see" this God at all...it is through a Roman glass darkly. It isn`t a god you`re worshipping at all...it`s a Roman Emperor...up to their old tricks again...like Constantine who turned everyone Christian...and had his own son murdered as well.
