Parpola explained how Assyrians embraced Christianity, which has become an indelible part of the Assyrian identity, but it has also subjected them to endless persecutions and massacres, which decreased their numbers drastically. He added that unfortunately, Assyrians are split into rivaling denominations and political groups and that for Assyrians to survive as a nation, they must unite under the Assyrian identity of their ancestors.

...I´m sorry but if Parpola really said Assyrians embraced Christianity then he´s a nut case as well. Might as well tell African slaves that they "embraced" American citizenship..eventually and then only as second class citizens..might as well tell them they "embraced" Christianity too....NO ONE embraced Christinaity except nut jobs. People who had their roots firmly dug in their own ancestry did not LEAP into Jesus...that´s absurd.

They then turn around and tell us that EVERYONE who ever became a Muslim did so at the point of a sword..enough of this idiotic twaddle...Christianity forced itself everywhere it went..like Evangelical pain in the ass Christianity is doing now in Iraq.

If Parpola doesn´t see the certainty that Assyrians also "embraced" Islam then he´s just another Christian apologist..no matter how flattering he may be to the boys.
