Farid,

>it"...they really got it! Youīre living in houses with cars in the driveway and clothes and food all paid for by the Imperial Roman Christians..not those other kinds you like to put on the flyers. Those "real" kinds would have gotten killed like Jesus. The other ones pay your fare fella...and they get their money from all the WRONG Christians in all the WRONG ways imagineable and give you a pittance so youīll pray for their grteasy souls...

Farid not. It's the sweet old ladies and the volunteer workers and the quiet folks that live peacefully and never make it into your history books that keep the Church together - the people for whom the Church has made a difference (at least if you ask them; you might know better) - by giving their five bucks a week. That's how the Cathedrals were built - by good people giving a rock here and a pound of sand there to help make something beautiful. The "other ones" couldn't give a damn one way or the other - or a dollar - and that's fine by me. Then again, you might be right - there might be a huge conspiracy that only people who haven't been inside a Church in fifty years can see, and that those on the inside can't because they're too busy sorting nickels tossed into baskets by machinists and cashiers.

>***Oh cut it out! Save this stuff for children. These other institutions donīt hide behind god...they donīt use heaven and an eternity to frighten or tempt people with.

What? The only point there was that Christianity can be and has been abused like every other good thing.

>because "holy" makes boring reading. Who do you think started the anti-slavery movement in the Americas anyway?
>
>***The same people who profited from it and preached that it was no sin...your church. Some things are even too blatant for you people to endure...but you were NEVER first in line in any way shape or form. There are enough decent people in the church...I said, thatīs what youīre for...there are enough to provide the cover for the rest...they do the dirty work while you drive the getaway car...nothing surprising there.

How many "decent people in the Church" do you have to meet before you realize that they're NOT the exception - that THEY are the real Christians? Do you really think that your interactions with Assrearian millionaires and your reading of Christian wars are representative of the whole shebang?

>the world? What the hell kind of poison makes you BETTER the MORE you take of it?
>
>***It isnīt better when you do it for an incredible, unheard of reward or to avoid an horrendously sadistic punishment. Itīs love when you do it because it needs doing..

Not the point I'm making. You say that Christianity by its nature makes people bad. I'm pointing out that all your "exceptions" and "PR people" are the ones who take their faith MORE seriously than your "real" Christians. Again: What the hell kind of poison makes you BETTER the MORE you take of it?

As for love and doing things for reward or punishment vs. doing them "because it needs doing..." I'll take a bit from Aristotle, if you don't mind - he did, after all, believe in one God. The ideal for anyone is to do good things just because you're a good person and it's the natural way you act - you don't deliberate about stopping at a red light or giving a burger to a homeless guy: you just do it. Not everyone is at that level, however - Christians and others alike. Some people, because of their upbringing or whatever else, have to deliberate about good actions - they ask "Why SHOULD I give anything to that bum? He's healthy enough to work and blah blah blah." Because Christ came to save sinners, he has an answer: "Because I said so, and I'm God." The promise of heaven and the threat of hell - which I believe are real, obviously - are the first kick in the pants for the selfish bastards whom Christ came to save.

Your tv pal,

Andy
