Sometimes I take a step back and appreciate the goodies that I take for granted, especially now during the winter when, in Michigan at least, the elements really make you feel vulnerable. The blackout was a nice wake-up call because of the mass-hysteria that ensued. Oh, I wish I had brought a video camera to Meijer to record the mayhem that I witnessed then...

You are correct. The goodies are here and we don't know why...or we don't care why and how and who had to die and work in a sweat shop for them...

I heard that slur used against other kids too...usually ones who had ideas and opnions that weren't quite the norm...as if to reserve judgement, or form your own, or refuse to go along with the herd was a crime resulting from an oversized ego...or any ego at all. An odd thing to be slammed for in a country that prides itself on freedom of speech and thought, liberty and individualism...one whose people made fun of regimented societies like the Soviets where thought control and official government owned "Media" provided "News".

>My dictionary defines ego as: "The self, especially as distinct from the world and other selves"...also..."The personality component that is conscious, most immediately controls behavior, and IS MOST IN TOUCH WITH EXTERNAL REALITY" (caps mine). The last definition given is , "self-love", followed by, "self-confidence and self-esteem". Now where in any of that is there anything unhealthy and worthy of public censure..by 17 year olds no less and against their peers?

Well, to start, you'd have to define self-love in very immediate and self-serving ways that fail to take into account consequences for ones long-range well-being, never mind one's children or theirs. You'd also have to shatter any self-esteem at an early age...and public school is a great way to do that and more...like rob people of self-confidence and substitute pablum and treacle and "closure"...keep them from becomming conscious of what surrounds them and who pays for this "envious lifestyle" they think to love themselves through...also encourage them to be unable to control their own behavior, at parties but also at the office and home without drugs...and of course, the most important of all...have them lose all touch with external reality and the ability or inclination to form opinions about it on their own... but live in a Fantasy Island world of Lotteries, Bingo and Vegas and a peculiar world view as manufactured and packaged and marketed as anything else we're sold.
