Dear Empress,
I don't think that Chaldean is the new "other" necessarily... in my experience I have noticed that Chaldeans refer to themselves as "Chaldean" because they know that we "something", and didn't know what to call it. They could have used Assyrian, but I think they used chaldean either because that's what the church was called, or because the language that we speak is Aramaic... who knows. I do agree with you that our people seem obsessed with self-loathing. I can't tell you how many times I've heard Chaldeans tell me that "I'll never do business with a Chaldean", but at the same time, I have also heard many tell me "Why should I give that xxxxxxx (white person, jew, etc.) my business when I can go to a Chaldean instead?" It seems like the community is divided up into two camps: One that wants to embrace our identity, and one that hates it more than anything else in the world. Unfortunately for us, the latter is in the majority and the former is in the minority. The solution is to embrace peoples of different faiths and to shun extremism... the question is... is this possible with our fearless patriots?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts,
Jeff

Why are we wasting so much energy with the Chaldean/ Assyrian name/flag question that with real issues destroying our communities worldwide? Has self-loathing become so instrinsic to our national psyche that it has become 'easier' to fight the 'enemies within' than those without?
