The whole silly thing begins in coming up with gods in the first place. But it's understandable people would do that when they hadn't yet discovered a damn thing about how Nature works...what fire is, what lightning and thunder are...where do the seasons go etc. It helped calm their fears by supplying "reasons" for the things that bothered or fascinated them that their stupendous ignorance allowed for no other possible explanation...35,000 years ago. And, naturally enough, having made up gods to cover all bases, they had to be pretty powerful gods to have done all they were credited with and also, naturally enough, those sad bumpkins then made themselves serve and propitiate these powerful beings made up entirely from their own ignorant heads...ignorant for lack of education and not, as Andy claims, because we "know all we need to know". And so you had religion...invented by and then developed and "refined"...if you can use such a word in that context...by well meaning, hairy Neanderthals...and things have pretty much stayed that way.

Christians have had 1500 years to do something ELSE besides use terrors and gifts to make people "good" with and they haven't bothered and neither would they, for a truly educated person would drop this stuff like the idiotic and deadly fluff it is. Thwarting the mind and corrupting morals is what the Church has worked at, though they'll deny it when they succeeed, which is far more often than not...they just can't come out and say it. Once institutions are formed they like perpetuating themselves and aren't about to willingly undergo a major transformation starting with the very basic foolishness they openned shop with. Hence you have the "anomaly" of highly educated and sophisticated people such as inhabited Berlin in the 1930's embarking on a long bloodbath they were assiduously prepared for by the Catholic Church almost from the day it began to "minister" to people. This also explains how otherwise sane and decent enough looking people can develop a "policy" that calls for the death by starvation and other barbaric means of 500,000 Iraqi children. And of course Andy is wheeled into place to say it was all a mistake...these Christians aren't REAL Christians either...though they went to his school for 1500 years.

You can never really become civilized or quite humane and right in the head so long as you use for "moral guidance" the fears and hopes and belief system of Neanderthals. Be you a doctor, engineer, professor, president of the United States or "Intellectual"...at heart your value system, especially where the divine is concerned, is that of a Neanderthal...and there isn't anything them people wouldn't eat...human gore included. And to claim you've "come a long way Baby"...because you use "symbollic gore" shows how clever a Neanderthal can be and still stay the same repugnant thug he was back when.

Kill god before he kills...and eats...you.
