...just wanted to add that Islam played a pivotal role in providing inspiration for the European Renaissance as well. It was the threat from the Ottomans, returning the favor the Crusades did them, that made Venice quail in it`s boots as well as the remnants of the old Byzantine empire trying to hang on in exile in Serbia and Bosnia. Even Rome got to worrying what might happen if a Muslim Crusade swept the Byzantines completely out of the way and toppled Venice...their last outpost if Byzantium fell and a short shot at Rome itself.

A conference was called to see if the two Murdering Groups of Christians vying over who got the Prince of Peace right or wrong...their old game, could bury the hatchet anywhere but in each other`s skulls...and Bishops and prelates and whatnots travelled from the East bringing with them Greek culture and gifts and even though the conference failed and the eastern Christians were wiped out...and pushed back to the border they occupied uneasily with Islam for centuries...still, it was the presence of Islam that even saved Greek learning and then it was their ability to revenge what the Christians were doing to them, or had been...that put enough fear in the hearts of the Byzantines that drove them to Rome itself where the seed was sown for the Renaissance.

The Byzantines were immersed in Greek culture as well...but mostly just the parts relating to the fabricating of the bible in Alexandria by another passle of out of work Hebrews. But Pagan Greece was preserved by Islam and transmitted to the world...okay so some of those bishops liked to have marble statues of naked young Greek boys too.
