There was a time back there when I was wondering if I'd been playing a fool's game all these years...especially in my case where I was making such a fuss about Assyrian monuments and how we needed public exposure and all the travels around the country dragging Narsai along...the late nights standing in hotel lobbies hoping someone would come over and talk like being Assyrian was something real that had a place in the modern world...and then losing all I'd worked for for over 20 years and the hardship for my family...and all of it for what? Who knows any of this for sure? Is it all just Christian speculation and slap-dash attempt to get back at Islam?

What if it was all a lie...a joke? And it certainly seems like one. I mean whoever heard of an argument for "purity" of an ethnicity 3000 years old and more when there are hardly any ethnicities left today that are pure and never were any back then anyway? Then there's this religious nonsense that says Christian Assyrians are the only real Assyrians because they are Christian and got rid of their own silly god, but can't be Muslim because "Assyrians are always loyal"...what kind of reasoning is that? Or that they are true Assyrians because they talk a lot about it...and you can see from the comments over at aina, they're eager to put aside this "trivial matter" of censorship and get back to what they do best..."build Assyria"! Lord love them.

It's impossible to make any sense of it with only the material at hand...the accepted version of what took place. And, just when I begin to think the entire thing is a collosal hoax...I'm saved by Islam, of all things. I don't mean by being converted or becoming a believer in it...but by what the presence of Islam in BetNahrain has meant for the promulgation of the Assyrian Heritage and what it was able to achieve...the culture, art, architecture and everything else it ever became known for. The Arabs coming out of Arabia had very little in the way of any cosmopolitan culture...but they had the sense to appreciate what they saw in BetNahrain. There's no way to ever know, of course...but I have a feeling the Byzantine Romans would not have taken to us in quite the same way for they were already killing each other for their Prince of Peace. I think there would have been no fabulous Baghdad of the 1001 nights...no Haroun al Rashid and none of the scholars and thinkers and poets and writers and architecture Islam produced through our inspiration and example, not to mention all those dear Pagan authors and thinkers it saved and transmitted to the world.

I think without the advent of Islam the center of power for that region would have remained in Constantinople and the two centers of the Roman Empire would have fought among themselves and vied for which version of Christ was to be the victor and a whole lot of people would have been killed...as they killed a whole lot in Europe when they were ALL one kind of Christian till they split into two then 400 denominations...and it's likely one or the other side would have been victorious and depending on which one...the 1000 year long Dark Ages Rome imposed would have enveloped BetNahrain as well...and any remnants of Assyrian magnificance would have been burnt at the stake, as it's re-buried today.

The very fact that desert tribes from Arabia were so transformed by the treasures and cultres of BetNhrain, speaks to the powerful impact of what must have been, by then, a bare fragment of what had once been...except for the spirit in the people that kept the memory alive and ready to burst forth in a creative surge such as the world has seldom seen. Obviously these were not cringing crybabies hiding in the hills. The passion and fierceness of desert Arabs, determined to keep the Byzntine Emperors from conquering them and butchering them as well for their Lord, combined with the richness and refinement of the cultures of BetNahrain...resulted in the magnificence, in Europe, of Cordoba in Spain where plumbing and street lights and hospitals and universities and magnificent tile work and luxurious gardens and fountains and public baths graced a city such as nothing the rest of Europe had experienced since the collapse of th Roman Empire, but which was prevalent already in the lands conquered by the Islam, especially in BetNahrain...all of it derived from Nineveh and Babylon and Susa and Persepolis...became a living testament to the people whose buried treasure lay beneath it all...but whose spirit was alive and well and walked the earth with pride and dignity. Nothing dies.

The achievements of Islam and a little rational thinking makes me realize that the spirit of BetNahrain went nowhere...it is still there. The religions that came and went only affected the surface of it...and the only religion that has consistantly attacked the spirit of those magnificent cultures as well as the body politic and the lands and resources has been Christianity...not Islam. Christianity because the version of it adopted by the Roman Empire...which became the only version tolerated...had at its core the prejudices of the ancient maliciously envious and murderously intolerant enemies of the Assyrians...as you can see in their Hebrew bible, Old and New. The Arabs had no such hatred of the Assyrians and others in that region...they knew a superior culture when they saw it and tried to learn from it...at least in their early years. But, to the Roman Christians, the Assyrians would always have to be those degenerate profligates and "cruel" people the Jewish bible made them out to be and which they still insist on believing and teaching.

Islam saved betNahrain...made it strong enough to withstand and finally discourage more Christian attacks for a long enough time to build a glorious new version of the old empires...under another religion...as the Christian remnant was, according to their own version of things...hiding up in the hills and then refusing to join in and share the rich culture that was simply their own heritage in a new and invigorated form. Christianity additionally made them look to the West, to other and more foreign cultures, who have never accepted them as co-equals, simply because these were the people who made Christianity murderously efficient and appeared to be those to run and hide among...as they had run to the hills before...and expect "help" from, even at the cost of betraying their own countries and heritage, as they're still doing.

What I'm getting at is what many of us are beginning to suspect...that the greater number of our people turned to Islam...not through force, but because Islam had the centralized and unifying leadership and charisma to defend our lands and then the good sense to adopt and be conquered, in a sense, by us. These Christians of ours have been malcontents always eager to pay Islam back any way they could...for if their Lord is truly Lord of all...then why was he sent packing from the place of his birth even?

Assyrians are alive and struggling in Betnahrain...Christian and Muslim and Yezidi and deist and athiest and Jewish. The culture, the memory, the refinement and grace runs through all of them...and all of them have scum elements. Being Assyrian was never a free ride...you are a human first and your humanity is your first order of business and it is your's alone.

It is Christianity that has been attacking those lands and destroying the culture and the treasures of Ashur...it was Christianity that attacked the region first with its bloody Crusades and then again attacked the lands of the Ottomans in the modern era and began this oily land-grabbing Crusade 100 years ago that is still with us. After its initial attack...not against the people of BetNahrain but to confront the marrauding armies of the Eastern Romans...Islam settled into a Golden Age that our idiots still refuse to acknowledge..as their ancestors still wouldn't come down from their hills...the same hills they're still trying to have destroyed in the guise of "saving them".

What a relief. It wasn't a hoax after all...there was a Great Assyrian Nation..you can tell because you can see what just a memory of it was capable of producing in the capable hands of the Muslims...and how they inspred and breathed new life into that venerable region..not by teaching them meekness and humility and reciting paens to the people who blessed those who wuld kill Assyrian babies...they did it by rousing their spirits to FIGHT for what they wanted...to defend it and defend it with honor as any historian but a Christian one will admit that the Ottoman Turks especially were the gentlemen of the Medeival World...of course they were...they learned at the feet of the greatest gentlemen and women of THEIR day...the people of BetNahrain.

Thank you Muhammad and Ashur...you saved us from being entirely overrun and turned to mush by the Judo/Christians...who're showing us now what they always wanted to do to us...but coudn't quite manage until our own Christans joined forces with them and helped pay for and bless the enterprise.

Muchas gracias a ti
