As an answer to: To Hanna written by Ashor Giwargis on 02 Feb 2004 17:47:31:

Ashor,

When I am arguing with you, it is not because I am criticizing the Church of the East and defending the Syriac Church, I beleive that both churches had deviated from the true Christian teachings of the church fathers, and they are both corrupt. and the simple proof is that both church leaders are self centered, and don't care about the national interest of their people, and are not promoting love among our people which is the foundation of Christianity.

You claimed that Syriac means Christian because there are different ethnicities in the Syriac Chuch, and I replied that the same applies to the COE because they two have Indian members, and therefore Aturaya would mean Christian too, based on your own definition. After all the COE replaced Suryaya with Atoraya, and if they are not synonyms how cold that replacement hold?

The difference between you and me, is that you think that Suryaya/Suryoyo means Christian, and Aturaya means Assyrians, I on the other hand believe that Suryaya/Suryoyo means Assyrian. This is the essence of the difference between us, it is not the difference in church denomination.

Once you accept the fact that Suryaya/Suryoyo means Assyrian, then everything falls in place, and you will realize that for the past 2000 years our people never dropped the usage of our Assyrian name, they just used it in the form of a nickname as Suryaya/Suryoyo instead. It is like someone whose name is Joseph, and during his childhood he was called Jo.

>Hanna,
>>Your argument doesn't hold, because what the Church of the East did is that it replaced the word "Suryaya" with "Aturaya", and it still has Indian follower, so it is still the same as before. Using your argument I can say the same as you did (by interchanging Suryaya with Aturaya): so the term Aturaya have no relation to our ethnic identity whereas it's also for other ethnicities.
>**** And your argument doesn't hold because your church leaders said that you are a Christian Turk, and then a Christian Arab! So Suryaya=Christian Arab (Your logic).
>If you want to refer to the mistakes of my church leaders and I'll refer to the mistakes of your church leaders, then we'll get to no where and our discussion will be silly.
>As an intellect, you should correct the mistakes of the past instead of arguing by them to prove your point of view that is basically wrong for people who you are discussing with.
>I was talking about what we are, and not what the hell Arabs or Church leaders call us. And these people who made the festival should know who they are first.
>Assyrian Nation
>Assyrian Language
>Assyrian God
>Assyrian Homeland; ASSYRIA.
>Thank you
>Ashur,
>>***** You are talking about inscriptions of a "CHURCH", and when those inscriptions were written we were blinded by our Christianity, at that time we never used "Christiana".. anyway, you didn't get my point. What I mean is that if there is the term "Suryayeh" than they are talking about their Church as the "Suryeta" church which was also the church of some Arabs and Indians, so the term Suryaya have no relation to our ethnic identity whereas it's also for other ethnicities.
