Reading some well expressed, thoughtful and very passionate posts by nile and Ann Margaret Yonan at aina I think I see the only way out of this dilemna we are all breaking our heads and wasting our breath over, if we are in good faith...it isnīt a perfect solution...what is...but it underscores the uselessness of continuing on without it...for weīre all arguing about passage on a ship thatīs already left the dock.

Weīre going to have to either drop all mention of religion period...no splitting hairs, when we canīt split heads, about whether Chaldean is just a religious term or an ethnic one and whether or not Church of The East should move to the SouthWest and all the rest of it. As each person from one team tries to be "reasonable" as best he or she can..he invariably sets off some buttons and whistles in another team...and we go round and round.

Why donīt we just admit that an Assyrian can be of any religion in the world...like an Englishman can or an American or an African and let it go at that...without falling into the trap of claiming that only this one or that one can be a REAL Assyrian because...you supply the reason...whatever. Whatever we do, it leads right back to the same place with no one giving an inch.

Itīs time to just drop religion entirely from ethnicity...if we seriously want to become players and not marginalized martyrs. Anyone who still clings to their particular brand of Christianity obviously finds religion more dear than ethnic identity which by definition has nothing to do with religion, in the modern era.

And why is that so odd or strange? Weīre insane to keep insisting on "religious purity" like Fascists insist on "ethnic purity". Ainīt no such thing anyway. Why do we want to step backward in time? Letīs just say NO to religion...at least in making it any kind of determining factor in ethnicity or correctness or rightness and the rest of that stuff. Let everyone pray in private to whomever they want to and lets move on to all those other things that make up a "nation"...if thatīs what we think we have. Our stubborness on this point sort of proves we have no care for nation building...this is how nations and people get torn apart...not put together.

Weīre being left behind...way behind...and we didnīt exactly start out in front...in the modern era.
