Iraqi Assyrians Seek Self Administered Region

...That`s funny...there`s still a banner headline up there at aina claiming that Kurds are threatening Iraq`s Territorial Integrity when THEY demand the same..oh well.

The recent explosion of violence in some parts of Iraq has led to heightened concern amongst Iraq's Assyrian population.

...First off...you are Christians. As the one photo you have accompanying this article clearly shows fifteen bearded old Christian farts trying very hard to pass as Assyrian kings...these are your sects and denominations slyly looking for a Christian enclave in a sea of pissed as hell Muslims..which you neither want or are gonna get...the little fuckers are gearing up for another sectarian battle..the ONE war you boys fight to the death.

...The Christians in Iraq have been given every reason to be more afraid than the last time Christians came to "save" them..this violence is the result of another Crusade mounted by the same murderous bastards who`ve been doing it aLL along..and the few remaining Christians there are going to get "tragically" thrashed for it...and when they do, you`ll all come howling about poor Christians and how no one respects their rights.

The fear of spiraling security deterioration and the looming risk of civil war has led to greater consternation among Iraq's indigenous Christian Assyrian community.

..."Civil war"...is looming? What happned to the joy at "Liberation"?...what`s going on in that ice cream parlor in Baghad where the good times were rolling last month? Send the Reverend back for another scoop.

Already experiencing escalating attacks by Islamic fundamentalists from the south and continued hegemonic threats from Behdanani Kurds to the north and east, the Assyrians (also known as Chaldeans and Syriacs) are renewing calls for a self-administered area to serve as a sanctuary or protected zone.

...bullshit. The escalating attacks are coming from the Christian invaders..what you`re getting are your just desserts for collaborating with the British all over again...and the Americans this time.

..you can renew your calls for anything you want...nothing will come of your calls...your cries..your protests..none of it. You boys have seen to it that the Assyrian Heritage bullshit is a joke.

The historic Assyrian political aspirations for a self-administered area in the plains of Nineveh in the environs of Mosul were officially endorsed by the Baghdad Conference of October 2003.

...that`s like the Ku Ku Klan endorsing a "White`s Only" policy...who you kidding? I`m sure your Mom endorses the shit out of your poetry as well.

Officially known as the Chaldean Syriac Assyrian Conference, the Baghdad conference was jointly sponsored by the Assyrian Democratic Movement (ADM) and the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO). The conference drew wide support from the Assyrian denominations, (The Church of the East, the Syriac Orthodox Church, the Chaldean Church of Babylon) as well as the Armenian Church.

...well of course it did! Honestly!! The conference IS THE DENOMINATIONS!!!

In the final declaration of the conference, the participants advocated "the need to designate an administrative region for our people

...you designated "a need"? You have a NEED for your own enclave? Hells bells I`d like a country too..in fact I feel the NEED for one lots of times.

in the Nineveh plain with the participation of other ethnic and religious groups, where a special law will be established for self-administration and the assurance of administrative, political, cultural rights in towns and villages throughout Iraq where our people reside."

...you people are too funny. I swear, just like your "identity", you get off on words....and ONLY words..any actual doing scares the beejayzus out of you.

The Baghdad Conference was a historic milestone in the modern history of Iraq in that it represented the first and only comprehensive gathering of Assyrians from various religious and political backgrounds. The participants debated and agreed upon a common political platform representing the aspirations of Assyrians in Iraq.

..it was no such thing..it was another instance of you all SAYING something historic happened when five priests and a wild eyed dog got together. You ALL claim to be historical...when you`re unrelentingly hysterical.

The proposal for an Assyrian self-administered zone has come closer to acceptance with its inclusion in the Transitional Administrative Law (TAL, English, Arabic) officially signed by the Iraqi Governing Council on March 1st, 2004.

...all of them are wet cardboard...none of it means a goddamn thing..just like WMDs and Liberation..it`s all pablum tossed out there to see who`s dumb enough to swallow..and NO ONE is dumber than you boys in your national dydees.

In that precursor to the future Iraqi constitution, Assyrian demands for a sanctuary are included in Article 53, paragraph D: "This law shall guarantee the administrative, cultural, and political rights of the Turcomans, ChaldoAssyrians, and all other citizens."

..it will do no such thing..the others you mention are all Muslims with their religion in common with the rest of Iraq...you Christians are not Assyrians...you are ONLY Christians and as such it is YOUR religion that is leading the Crusades..you will get nothing but more hatred and violence..more than that, you will get it for years to come for this most recent act of betrayal...I wish Islam would pick up just a little more Christian intolerance and throw you all in a Gunatanamo of their own.

For Assyrians, this small and still vague reference was tenaciously fought for in the deliberations leading up to the final version of the TAL. Some insiders within the Assyrian political leadership in Iraq had noted a possible Assyrian decision to pull out of the deliberations if this key demand had not been met.

...it makes no difference...that`s why your wives all cook so furiously...pull out or stay in..there`s never an orgasm with you boys..you`re all foreplay and no delivery.

The Assyrian drive for a self-administered area is based on a fundamental premise that cultural survival of the indigenous Christian Assyrians depends on their ability to administer their own affairs in the Nineveh plain.

...no no. We`ve been there bfore..the Millet system in Ottoman Turkey was as close as you EVER got to any kind of autonomy..there`s no way in hell any Muslim state is going to allow you to administer a goddamn thing besides your churches and even there they`re going to keep a closer watch on you than ever..and forget about the language of Christ that`s so dear to you all In Iraq and ONLY in Iraq..you ain`t gonna teach Syriac manuscript crap as history either...watch.

The importance of the TAL rests in the fact that it represents, for the first time ever, an acceptance by the Iraqis themselves as well as the Coalition Provisional Authority that Assyrians (or ChaldoAssyrians) exist and have certain rights.

...they`re playing you for chumps..which is easy to do since you`re so damn chumpified already and call it GRATNESS. They`ve got Christian soldiers killing their people right now..they`ll agree to anything. They know damn well America won`t "stay the course"..they know this is an illegal and unpopular and SOLD war back home and as soon as Americans can they`re going to stop the killing of their own sons and daughters...and they`ll never want to hear of Iraq and Iraqis again and they could give a shit now...and then watch and see if any "protected" zone doesn`t become the COSTCO where you can pick up crates of Christian lives cheap..and guess who you`re gonna blame?

The extent of those rights, however, remains undefined and problematic in that the right to self- determination remains vague and, secondly, in action, at least, has not been really recognized by the Behdanani Kurdish leadership as a defined entity independent of their own occupation and rule.

...well of course not silly. You yourselves did all the huffing and puffing in those breathless HISTORIC releases that had ZOWAA moving up and down the country while everyone else was ducking, buuilding schools and villages and promising everything in sight to anyone who wanted it...no one EVER gave you a goddamned thing..just like they haven`t now...quit hopping between two nothings and calling it historic action.

To the Kurds, the defining relationship to the Assyrian areas is their continued occupation of Assyrian parts of Arbil and Dohuk and their undisguised designs on the city of Karkuk and Nineveh province.

...They aren`t "Assyrian Areas" silly. That ended long ago and you ain`t Assyrian anyway. This is the one thing that blows your cover sky high...everyone else in Iraq knows it..they call you Christians because that`s what you are...they don`t even bother with your claims to being Assyrians and having any "clams" to Iraqi soil. The Kurds are Muslim Iraqis...they want what they can get..no one is going to give them anything either..not unless the American goal is eternal chaos...but the public may want out completely..in which case there may or may not be civil war..and no one...NO ONE is gonna rush in to save a few Christians...and you know it full well. The Christians back there are toys for you..they are "sacrifices" that Firas and Aprim "Have to make"...they are "martyrs-in-waiting".

The TAL's article 53 paragraph A states "The Kurdistan Regional Government is recognized as the official government of the territories that were administered by the (sic) that government on 19 March 2003 in the governorates of Dohuk, Arbil, Sulaimaniya, Kirkuk, Diyala and Nineveh (sic)." To Assyrians, what has already been a catastrophic experiment in Behdanani Kurdish rule in the occupied Assyrian lands in Arbil and Duhok now threatens to be extended further into Assyrian areas. As one Assyrian analyst noted, "What has until now been an illegal and brutal occupation and subjugation of Assyrians may now be codified in law."

...oh run along. There is nothing more brutal going on in Iraq and there hasn`t been, than this same council and the guns and blood that backs up these propositions of yours. These are all Christian "analysts" and Hysterians playing it for all it`s worth..you`re all damn right..there will be a blood bath coming...but you can blame yourselves...again and as always...for believing any Christians were coming to rescue you and restore your National Doodles. Silly boys.

Still more ominous to Assyrians is the reference to the ethnically diverse city of Karkuk and the remaining Assyrian towns and villages in the Nineveh plain. The same analyst commented "The Kurds have drawn their map- their line in the sand- and it includes all of the remaining Assyrian towns and villages, including those previously under government control."

...they aren`t Assyrian towns...they were towns Christians who call themselves the ONLY Assyrians happened to live in. You people bring all this destruction on yourselves for being Christian stooges and then actually want to convince the world you`re hated for being ASSYRIANS!!!

For Assyrians, self administration essentially entails local self rule by Assyrians with a direct relationship to the central government in Baghdad, not an occupied extension subsumed by the KRG. As an Assyrian political leader noted "The Assyrian experience with the KRG has been too bloody, too costly to be acceptable." Referring to the experience of Kurdish autonomy following the first Gulf War, the analyst added “Just imagine if they had unfettered control with legal justification for their rule. We can't allow ourselves to be a wholly owned subsidiary of the KRG."

...They did no such thing..it was YOU who were hunting up every instance you could of any Christian being harmed by a Muslim..yet you mention not a word about all the Christians killed by Christians...right now TODAY! You aren`t interested in the "suffering" of Christians and you sure as shit ain`t any kind of Assyrians. You want to one-up it on each other. As far as you`re concerned the ONLY Christians who EVER died in Iraq were killed by Muslims..that`s going to come and kick you good and hard..like you deserve!

...When the smoke clears and the stench of death and the measure of the havoc and destruction taken...Christians are going to be dead meat. You know it..you knew it all along and all you`re doing is egging it on...your one and only and perrenial hope has been that SOMEDAY...SOME Christian country will be moved by SOMETHING enough to come save "fellow-Christians"...good luck.

Ultimately, the TAL did keep the door open for Assyrian political aspirations in Iraq. However, with its overreaching concessions to the Kurds, the TAL has also framed the context of the next stage of struggle against continued Kurdish hegemony against Assyrian lands. As one Assyrian summarized "We now have our foot in the door, but the KRG is amassed on the other side trying to forcibly shut it."

...you have your foot firmly wedged in your own mouths...you think it`s a door...but then you think you`re Assyrians and those are YOUR lands. Go along with you.

The recent violence in Iraq to the south of the Assyrian areas and the constant threat from the Behdanani Kurds to the north and east has placed the Assyrians in an uncomfortable squeeze. Assyrian consternation over the lack of security conjures up vivid recollections of Iraqi brutality against Assyrians.

...bullshit. No mention of the Americans killing anyone who moves..like this fools anyone. You want people to keep remembering 1325 and 1765 and 1897 and let`s not forget 1931..but never EVER 2004!!! Iraqis have just as vivid a recollection of your cheering on the Americans and Brits and the whole world to come¨"Liberate" their country. You really think anywhere near to the number of Christians were killed in the last 50 years as Muslims have been? And by whom?

...Are you insane???

The historic Assyrian heartland in the north of Iraq has been under attack and steadily diminished since the inception of the modern Iraqi state. Beginning with the Simele massacre of 3000 civilians in 1933, 50-60 Assyrian villages were lost in the north.

...massacres happen all the time, ask Aprim...besides your numbers are way off..I know that for a fact and you should too because the UN backs them up and you know how they lie. Besides which...the Christian Americans with your blessing killed more than that in ONE WEEK..and did it for 13 years...you do the math. Have you no shame?

An additional 200 villages were destroyed by the Baathist regime between the 1960's and 1980's in an effort to forcibly cleanse the area of Assyrian Christians.

...you idiots all come from villages just like those. Those villages are not dominated by an Assyrian Symphony Hall...or an Assyrian University, or Museum or Art and Culture Center. In fact there isn`t anything Assyrian in those villages..there is however a pissant church in all of them and there`s a garage madrassa in the church "teaching" Syriac Manuscript bullshit in the "dear" lanhuage of Jesus Christ..who also wasn`t Assyrian anywhere. It is against these that the government moved...as the US government moved against Waco and killed a lot of children in the process....NO country will allow seditious nonsense to be taught in ANY guise in ANY language under cover of ANY religion.

...I`d destroy the kinds of places that give you your atrocious educations as well...so you might not come back years later to lead the charge and harm BetNahrain some more. Islam has been too kind.

Many of these villages were subsequently re-inhabited by Kurdish squatters. Since the first Gulf War another nearly 50 villages have been expropriated in whole or in part by Kurdish squatters. Assyrian calls for the establishment of a self administered area as a sanctuary is an attempt to reclaim many of these lost villages and to salvage the last remaining presence of the indigenous Assyrian Christians.

...never happen. Squatting is a time honored custom..ask the Americans who came to squat on a continent. You simply will raise no ones interest by this kinds of squat. Or, to put it another way..."you ain`t gonna get squat"...but that`s not the real point...you all already know that..know it well. What`s really awful about all this is that it`s a mere sideshow..a way to gain the support of dense boobs who are likely to be lulled into believing your breathless reports about ASSYRIA IS ALMOST OURS::::UNTITTY WITH US NOW!!!

...That`s the sad and hateful part...you are pretending all of you for as Peter said, some things must not be discussed openly with these dummies who tune in...what you don`t want discussed is that this is nothing more than your old denominations and sects warring with each other..using the word "politics" as an oily screen behind which they`re battling over how many fingers you should salute a Jew with..nothing more.
