Paul, With all due respect, the British "created" America (i.e. stole it from the Native Americans) just as they "created" Iraq. I'd guesstimate that half of the countries around the world - if not more - are "ficticious" like Iraq and America. It's strange how these boys at AINA and Beth think... "us vs. them", "good vs evil"... you know, that sort of thing. Why are they so exclusive? Three years ago a Chaldean nonprofit group put on an art exhibit. We had a Jewish/Palestinian artist, Chaldean/Assyrian artists, and Iraqi artists. One Iraqi painter objected to the use of the phrase "Israeli Art" on principle, because the founding of Israel created a humanitarian catastrophe for the indigeneous Palestinians living there, who have lived there for hundreds if not over 1000 years. Since I was one of the organizers of the event (and the others were right near me), he turned to us and said "Don't you agree with me? We are all Iraqis, are we not? Shouldn't we oppose the use of the term "Israeli" art as something invalid?" He suggested we change it to "Jewish art" or "Palestinian Art"... and in the end the sign was changed. The point that I am trying to make is that Iraqis don't all make these distinctions that our boys make. They don't go out of their way to hate Christians...or at least they didn't until a Christian country enforced genocidal sanctions and then a genocidal occupation upon them. The state of Israel is about as much of a Democracy as South Africa ever was during aparthied... and their claim to that land is as valid (or, more correctly, invalid) as the British claims to Native American land were... -- Jeff ..................................
