Language is probabaly the single greatest invention Human Beans ever came up with. People use language in different ways...some use it as a hammer to pound things out of people..or into them..other`s use it like a can opener to pry things loose...some use it to clarify and simplify and communicate cleanly...other`s such as the church use it to obscure and cloud and muddy things up. Those who see it as means of getting their own way have no respect for it, no understanding of its beauty and REAL purpose.

Christians posing as Christians who also pose as Assyrians have a hard time of it...no way can they afford to speak clearly or simply and directly...what they really have to say is either too awful or just plain silly so the LAST thing they can afford to do is talk straight and clear.

We use language as if it was a travelling circus..filled with cheap sequined polyester gowns...flashy plastic jewels, pumped up trivial acts..a sword swallower who can`t bear to put the thing anywhere near his lips..a lion tamer who stays outside the cage...a daredevil who won`t come out of his dressing room..a trapeze artist who`s afriad of heights...you get the picture.

But the entire company believes the flyers they put out about how their circus compares with the BEST of them because they too have a Tent...only it`s in tatters and rags like the rest of their equipment but they wanted so MUCH to run away and join and a circus when they were kids that the reality of it doesn`t matter..their fantasy, where they live, is the BEST they could ever have hoped for...their alternatives are even worse..so they stay on..from town to town and year to year, never making enough to feed themselves and the three animals in their act.

As Hanna said...we don`t need to consult a dictionary, we have our OWN. The boys don`t know what words actually mean...and they don`t care..what they THINK they mean is good enough. They know one thing sort of well: what they DEMAND..and don`t bother about anything else. They never even ask the simple question: has anyone ever gotten what we expect to be given? Not even that.

By no definition of the word do they have a nation...they barely have tribes...more like "loose associations"...VERY loose. In no nation could you have groups of people splintering off and moving away to run their own afairs as each of their flea-bitten "leaders" sees fit..in no time at all the "nation" would be all over the place with each group as their mortal enemy.

It`s funny but "Assyrians" reserve their greatest anger for each other..so pissed that they were "betrayed" by what SHOULD be their "own" people...

There`s no underpinning..no solid basis for this sort of a "nation". At its core...the basis upon which the "Assyrian" identity is built is itself fractured and fragmented...it`s like trying to build a house on a foundation that`s cracked into several sections with large gaps between each...with the fractured foundation itself built over a swamp, a bog.

But it SOUNDS good to call it a nation..and the boys never heard a sound they didn`t like. It`s SO much easier and more comforting to make TALK activism and plug pulling into a Declaration of Independence and the Rights Of Man all into one.

We never established the ground rules for discussion..never agreed as to the meaning of the volatile words we throw around...no one is understanding anyone and hardly anyone WANTS to be understood for fear of being laughed at...people want to FIGHT..they don`t want to communicate...when you try to set ground rules each faction wants THEIR definitions of words, of history, of current events, of future expectations, to be the ONLY one...they each have SO little..I mean so little to base their slippery identities on that NO ONE feels he or she can compromise at ALL. It`s like having three items of clothing and winter is coming...you don`t want to give up a THING..in fact, you need MORE items added onto your costume just to weather the storm...

We get WORSE...we can`t possibly get better...under these circumstances.
