Thanks, habibi. I'm not a fan of feminist theory, between you, me and anyone else reading this.

I don't see gender (just like infants don't see race) and I always see the classification of genders as part of something bigger, not a dispossession of women for its own sake. So by virtue of this, I don't really enjoy feminist work because it borders on shrill three-quarters of the time.

I think this is by virtue of my background. I would probably be more gung-ho about women's issues if it had greater bearing on my existence. I come from a long line of women who are as hard as nails. I'm actually rather wimpy compared to my grandmothers and my own mother. So I've been conditioned by that and thus my experience has shown me that the problems with gender differentiation are class based.

It's all about what you're willing to take on as far as tags are concerned. Kind of like Punchinello in "You are Special." If you understand that each person is unique, the stars and the dots (society's tags) that people try to place on you just drop right off. I apologize in advance if my references to a Christian children's book offends anyone's sensibilities, but the reference fit perfectly.

B'shayna, Qasrani
