It stood about 300 ft and was used to honor the Babylonian god, Marduk. In the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament, Chapters 10 and 11, the tower is said to have been an ambitious project to reach the heaven to visit God. But God got angry, thinking that the tower was to challenge him, not to praise him. So in punishment, he confounded all the builders with different languages, not allowing communication.
