this is an important post...goes to the heart of the matter...whenever the boys admit Assyrians coverted to other religions they come back and say that since those people don't TALK about being Assyrian..while the boys make THEIR religion...which is NOT indigenous to BetNahrain, the SOLE proof of an Assyrian'identity"...they therefore STOPPED being Assyrian...Aramean points out the obvious, that Christianity is a RELIGION...and "Arab" or Arabized...or Kurdifried ar NATIONALITIES..or thnic identities.

You can be ant religion you want to be, never mention being Assyrian ONCE...and be as Assyrian as the fellow who talks a lot about it and says being Christian is the SAME as being Assyrian..in other words that a religion is the SAME as an ethnicity...let him tell it...

Ben, let me point out the contradictions in your logic.

1- First you are belittling the Assyrians and their ability to accept, reject and fight a religion they want or they did not want. The Assyrians proudly prayed to their Gods and Goddesses before Jesus. The Assyrians accepted to become Christians abandoning their old religions, some Assyrians did not accept Christianity, they should not be treated as less Assyrians because they did not become Christians. Then those Assyrians who accepted to become Moslims they are as Assyrian as those who still follow the ancient religions, the Christian religion or any other religion.

2- Ben, you said this "Before the arrival of Islam most of the population of southern Iraq was christian and not Arab": Ben, you are confusing religion with nationality. Islam is a religion while Arab is a nationality. Assyrian is a nationality while Christian is a religion. In the mosaic of the Mesopotamia and during the 7th and 8th century when Arabs Moslims from Arabia brough Islam to the all the population of what is now (Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, South Eastern Turkey and West Iran) the nationalities of the area were as follows Christian Arab tribes, Atheist Arab tribes, Assyrian Christian, Assyrians with ancient religions, Aramean Christians, Arameans with ancient religions, Zaradisht Persians). The area was not one nationality and was not with one religion. This was the situation then and please do not try to paint it otherwise. It does not do the Assyrians any good to deny the existance of others.
