As an answer to: Old Iraqi Constitution WAS Assyrian written by Tiglath on 09 Jul 2004 15:23:19:

I have a question for you. Doesn't this just show recognition of ancient Assyrian/Bablyonian peoples?

...when you are claiming descent from ancient people...it sort of implies you`re going to "recognize" them. You have to start at the beginning. My first idea for an Assyrian monument was to do one of Agha Poutrous...I dropped that in favor of Ashurbanipal because I wanted to go further back..to make the point to white people as well as our own...that we went that far back...same thing Saddam did.

Where was Sadams recognition of modern day Assyrians?

..the ancients left indicators that the world recognizes which make them Assyrians. Until the archaelogical discoveries of the last two Centuries, people believed the Assyrians were a figment of the bible...but once evidence was found, the Assyrians became real. Modern Assyrians have no such evidence..they have done nothing "Assyrian"...all their work, thought, time and activities are taken up with Christian things..there is ample proof that the people who call themselves Pure Assyrians..are Christians, bad ones at that..but there is NO proof that they are in any way connected to the ancient Assyrians. At least Saddam DID something about it...at least he promoted an interest in our common past..after all, we all know his family converted to Islam recently...that doesn`t make him Arab..as no Christian becomes Israeli just because he converts to a Jewish religion from Israel.

...no one is going to recognize you Christians as the pure and only descendants of the ancient people when it`s such an obvious ploy for a land grab in the name of the same Christ and Jewish religion that was shown to the door long ago and which was never indigenous to BetNahrain but came from the wilds of Israel..as Islam came there from the wilds of Arabia. The tent villages in the Arabian desert were every bit as common as the tent "kings" in Israel and Jerusalem was about as refined as Mecca or Medina...everyone knows what you`re trying to do and it will never work.

And also didn't Sadam do all these things but not in recognition of modern Assyrians as the descendents of the people of the cradle of civilization that you speak of

...Saddam would tell you that the descendants of the Assyrians are not distinguished by what Jew knock-off religion they swirched to...as you went Christian others went Muslim..neither he nor anyone else with any sense is going to agree to YOUR definition of what a modern Assyrian HAS to be..not when religion is your main criteria..you`ve simply made your Judo/Christian village culture into "Assyrian" culture..very funny and cute, but hardly accurate or binding.

but wasn't he trying to see it as the glorious heritage of modern day Arabs whose ancestors were mostly nomadic tribes when Assyrian ancestors were building city states.

...the Assyrians of BetNahrain`s ancestors were also "Arab" tribes wandering the desert as nomads when the Sumerians were building city/states..so too were Hammurabi`s Amorites...it has happened often enough in history that the desert ruffian has come to the city and been conquered in turn, when he thought he won.

..there is nothing wrong with wandering the desert...Jesus did it, so did Muhammad and Moses.

Also, is it not true that when Sadam did things like rebuild palaces that he put his name and stamp on each and every brick in the palace... so much for paying homage to ancestors... sounds more like trying to glorify yourself.

...he was following in the footsteps of our ancient kings who stamped their names on every brick...as you can still see at the Oriental Institute in Chicago...this was paying homage to common ancestors, nothing more.

Just questions. Peace.

...indeed.
