A Different Kind of Pride & Prejudice

Rebecca Simon
California

In some ways, it is quite refreshing to read Ms. Yonan's words of optimism. Her article in the June 25th, 2005 issue of Zinda titled “Pride and Prejudice” reminded me of the innocent world of free spirited children who see their surrounding through the eyes of absolute idealism.

...only a child such as yourself would think those words came from a child. It's clear you misunderstood...you look out at the world with the eyes of a brat and see brats everywhere...no surprise. There was far more realism in her article than what's about to follow in your's.

Unfortunately, our world is not as children would like it to be, rather one of what adults have made it to be. Therefore, one needs to view the world through mature experiences in order for one to survive.

...let me remind you how well you people have "survived"...you just helped "survive" several thousands of your own people to death while "surviving" over 50,000 out of their homes...homes they had managed to live in...REAL homes in REAL time in a REAL place...these things were visited on them by Christians...with your blessings and "realistic" appraisal that the best way to deal with Saudi fundamentalists was to attack and kill the children of Iraq,,,also the "realistic" belief that Britain and the United States are in the business of helping darkies...also your realistic recollection of the last several times they betrayed us...setting us up and using us...like you all just did AGAIN. Not to me ntion your "realistic" understanding of a democracy as a place where minority rights are GUARANTEED!!! Muslims didn't start the First World War...Muslims didn't start the Second...Muslims didn't attack Vietnam or attack their own Christian population...is it "realiistic" in your book to bring famine and disease to a country and believe it will NOT affect Christians as well? The Christians of Iraq who managed to remain inspite of all the crimes done by Christianity in the region would have loved to stay in Iraq, realistically. Even after the kinds of things that drove so many of you into the arms of the West, they ENDURED and were glad to do so...only this "realistic" war, based on "realistic" intelligence and the "realistic" claims that a nation so impoverished and outnumbered was yet building WMDs...even after a REALISTICLY thorough search for them turned up nothing...with the kind of "realistic" approach you have you're going to get the remaining Christians of Iraq killed or driven out...for REAL!

There are certain truths in what she has stated. That is, to the believers, Lord Jesus Christ loves us all equally. However, Fred Aprim’s June 18th article titled: “The Hallucination of the so-Called Moslem Assyrians”, does not repudiate the love of God to his children. Rather, Mr. Aprim’s claim, as I understood it, is one of Moslem man’s shortcomings and not of Christ‘s.

...and of course you see no shotcomings in Christian men? Who started this war...? Who said it was okey dokey to starve 5000 Iraqi children a month to death...beautiful children too, like your's and mine...who lied to bring on this unjust war? Why is it so easy for you people to only see the crimes of others? Who has killed MORE Christians...Muslims or other Christians?

Ms. Yonan has mentioned examples of Moslems’ kindness to Assyrians. There is no doubt that groups of people should not be painted with a wide brush. Yet, for every one of your stories of Assyrians’ appreciation of a Moslem’s generosity, there are thousands of stories of pain and suffering in the hands of Moslems.

...as there are tens of thousands of stories of the suffering of Muslims at Christian hands...like for instance the sufferings and loss of one million two hundred thousand Iraqi parents who lost 600,000 children UNDER FIVE, starved to death over a period of 16 YEARS by Christians...what of them? And what of Majdolin Yonan whom NONE of you will even mention because she had the tough luck of being blinded and her two babies killed by CHRISTIANS and not Muslims! What of her?

With no trepidation of being labeled prejudice,

...don't count on it baby.

I would like to respectfully remind you of a history replete with Islam’s atrocities against our Assyrian people.

...if you'll at the same time explain why...if you'll remember what Christians of America justified themselves in doing when 15 Saudis and 3 Egyptians and not a single goddamned Iraqi attacked the United States...recall how they said it was perfectly reasonable and moral and right too...to go attack IRAQIS and Afghanis. Why? Does it NOT matter which Muslims you kill? If that is so, if that works for you people..if you will paint death with such a WIDE BRUSH...then don't be surprised when Islam does the same..that for the crimes of MILLIONS of Christians committed against them wholesale and pell mell, Muslims retaliate against ANY Christian...they learned this from YOU.

I, like many other Assyrians, can look into my own family’s past and account for murders, rapes, and injustices committed against us in the hands of Moslems in the Middle East. My own mother can retell her account of the horrific murder of her brother and father, as well as other heads of households of her village, by the Iranian Kurds only in the last century. My grandmother’s emotional remembrances of the mass exodus of Assyrians from Iran in 1914 and again in 1918 attest to the accuracies of such travesties.

...my family suffered as much...this is sick of you...you people said the same about the Jews...said they'd killed your lord for which you people rounded up millions and killed them...now you're back with you horror stories all over again. I too lost family members...but I seem to recall that the Turks, who'd done NOTHING to the Europeans also lost hundreds of thousands of people...what about THEIR losses? Why do only you and I count?

Islam’s aggression against other nations such as Greece, Spain, India to mention a few, and recently against our beloved country, the Great United States of America, is well documented in the annals of history.

...what about German Christian aggression against so many nations? What about American aggression against so many countries?

...also recorded in the annals of history are all the European wars which bled those nations dry of millions of people for centuries...so is the extermination of six million people simply because you didn't like their religion...so are two World Wars, brought to us all by Christians...so are the Napoleonic wars, the Peasant's War...the 100 year Wars of The Roses, the Albigensian massacre...the murder of 10,000 Protestants by Catholics in ONE night in France...so is the Spanish American war, the Mexican American War, the Revolutionary War, the Crusades and all the judicial murders committed by the church in its 1000 year reign of terror called the Dark Ages...history is far more filled with the crimes of Christianity than any others.

In her article, Ms. Yonan has equated Christianity to Islam. I humbly admit that unlike her, I have not devoted the last twenty years of my life studying the world religions. Despite claiming of no scholarly knowledge of the religions, I am aware of some simple facts about Islam.

...how convenient for you and Aprim and the rest of our scholars in residence who managed to skip all that silly study...REAL study, relying instead on that one Russian tourist.

These facts put Islam in a separate category from Christianity. Unlike Jesus, Mohammed did not convert people by turning the other cheek rather he used the might of his sword.

...Islam NEVER converted people by the sword...it is Christianity that was guilty of that...that was the way the religion was "spread" in HALF the world...the entire New World from Alaska to Patagonia was put to the sword...it is a well documented history of barbarism and cruelty and the murder of parents the rape of mothers and the theft of children...cutting them off from their roots and cultures and raising them in Christian "schools" where they learned to sneer at and despise their own ancestors and "love" the very people who raped them.

Unlike Jesus, he lusted for a nine year old little girl and took her for a wife as an addition to his numerous wives in his harem.

...and Lot left his wife in the dessert..told the cops she turned into salt and then he raped his daughters but blamed them for it...saying the grieving girls wished to fuck daddy...your Abraham regularly traded his wife Sarai for favors...claiming her to be his sister, who was then taken into mens homes and fucked royally before being returned. French Kings as well as any number of bishops did these things all the time...Muhammad never claimed and his followers would be aghast at the idea that he was a god...he was a man...a man of his times. We can condemn him based on our feelings today...but in his day these things were common...and he was a MAN...not a god.

Unlike Jesus, he married his own daughter-in-law because he had seen her bare face and had fallen in love with her causing his step son to divorce her.

...and David, the ancestor of Jesus, lusted after a married woman so that he sent his faithful soldier, Uriah, to his death deliberately...boys will be boys.

It is to no surprise that to this day, these philosophies have been allowed to be practiced legally by followers of Mohammed throughout the Middle East.

...it is indeed a different cultural norm....but honey, the followers of Christ have OUTDONE whatever Muhammad did.

It is therefore why Mr. Aprim is so ambivalent about believing that Christians and Moslems can peacefully coexist, no matter by what name they call their ethnicity.

...they have been doing just fine for 1300 years and more..and were doing it up to last year and today...when the vast majority of them would like nothing MORE than for America to go away and allow them and their Muslim brothers and sisters to rebuild their homes and lives and dear nation.

The proof is the immense animosity between Sunnis and Shiias, even though, both groups share the same religion and nationality.

...are you serious? Have you heard of Ireland? have you heard of Spain? have you heard of the religious wars in Europe where Christian killed and gouged out the eyes and raped the daughters of OTHER Christians? Where have you been hiding all these years? Have you heard of TWO World Wars among CHRISTIANS? Tell me who rounded up millions of unoffending Jewish men, women and children who'd committed NO crime, who made soap from the bodies of children...who made pillows from the hair of virgins, who made lampshaes from their flayed bodies...was it Islam or Christianity? Did Muhammad ever advocate such a thing? Do you think Christian officers weren't forcing themselves on nine year old girls and boys....really?

Why then they cannot peacefully coexist on the same land? I think we should all deduce the answer to this why.

...because Christians have been "evangelizing" those people to death for over 1000 years. because Western European Christianity has always managed to find enough assholes to believe they will be "rescued" by a British Messiah...or an American Savior...and this has screwed it for ALL the other Christians...as 15 Saudis meant the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis.

I must respectfully disagree with Ms. Yonan's other premise calling all the people on earth as Assyrians because they all originated from Assyria. If we use the same logic, then we should all be little Adams and Eves with no regard to evolutions brought about by centuries if not millenniums that have passed by.

...not at all. You people believe in these fairy tales...carry them out to their logical conclusion and they lead you where Jesus was..who also said we are ALL ONE.

By the same token, to take this issue to the extreme, all plants, animals, and humans are made up of an aggregate of living molecules. Hence, we should all be categorized as a plain and uniform unit of matter.

...I love when you children do this....

The truth is that even masses of lands change through time; sometimes in matter of seconds such as the impact of the recent tsunami on the map of the continent of Asia.

...yes but they remain a part of this ONE EARTH. This is so silly...but go ahead.

Even if we assume that man originated from Assyria, how can we imprison our thoughts in a vacuum dismissing the factor of time and call billions of the earth population, Assyrians? I take issue with the term Assyrian being used as a generic name for mankind.

...now you know how I feel...I take great issue with Jews and Arabs using the name of Assyria to enoble themselves, they wish, or cut themselves a continent apart...where will the tsunami come from to give you a triangle?

I would like to think that we are a unique people with distinct cultural characteristics and therefore certain rights in the sociopolitical arena.

...of course you'd like to think that..it's the eternal child in you.

Finally, Ms. Yonan has attempted to answer four out of five of Mr. Aprim’s questions regarding issues of Assyrians in relation with Iraq and Moslems. However, her idealism is at work again as she attempts to answer these questions by using big IF’s such as: “IF Assyria… was a secular government…comprised of all Assyrians” or “Imagine IF Assyria…was a secular government and the Iraqi parliament was not formed on the basis of how many religious seats were allotted to the Shiia, the Sunni, the Christians.” She also presumes a perfect world in Iraq where everyone lives in harmony and respect for one another. A presumption that has proven false to those non-Moslems who have lived in the Middle East for generations.

...you mean it was a CERTAINTY that you'd get "your land" back...as payback for your support...is that what you realistically believed?

...it is Muslims who have seen their part of the world used as a dump and treasure trove and themselves and their children as expendable whenever a Christian wanted to attack OR betray them.

For all those who have been persecuted in Saudi Arabia for wearing a cross or owning a Bible, for all those in Iran who have been detained, tortured, and/or executed for daring to convert to Christianity, and for all those in Pakistan who have been burned alive in their churches because they wanted to worship Christ, and all others who have been massacred for being Christian in Middle East eager to coexist with their peaceful Moslem brothers and sisters, those big IF’s have been nothing but a farce and a far reaching dream.

...you are merely spreading your church's hate and propaganda. Black Africans suffered more than any of you did in the MidEast...yet not even they would have thought to call on African nations to attack America to save them....the Christians of the Mideast have had no worse time than the Christians of Europe have had in dealing with each OTHER. The MidEast and Turkey in particular is the ONLY place in the world that ever tried to make space and protect all three religions and their followers...and that too was destroyed by Christians...not Turks.

In conclusion, I sense that Ms. Yonan is a well intentioned Assyrian searching for resolutions through peaceful means. I confess that I am different from her in that regard. I firmly believe that a well justified prejudice, in all facets of life, is a prerequisite to survival. Consequently, one should take pride in that kind of prejudice that leads one to a guarantee of an enhanced life.

...man oh man...no Nazi or Racist in the KKK could have said it better. hate-filled people can always justify their hatred. This way the present will just be a replay of the past and will be our only future...these people really think they can win peace through war...they weren't listening to Jesus...who also lived in a real world.
