...it`s late night, he wears his best see-through and tightest short shorts...his lips are heavily rouged...his best heels are on...he waits, casually dangling a smouldering cross from his lips. Across the street the new European Casino and Spa is disgorging clients from all corners of Europe...Aprim sashays down ther street, drawing on his cross...blowing holy smoke circles in the misty night air...a Russian makes eye contact, Aprim curls back his lip, flashing a crooked smile....all is desire, all is martyrdom...all is possible to those with faith.

The next morning Aprim is surprised to discover the Russian has no respect for him...that though he went home with the man and did all he was asked to do..and with spirit and pride too...that come morning he was turned out...dranied and yet somehow "filled" too with a new passion and some better "positions".

Back on his corner Aprim pauses to light another cross and jot down some notes in a book of his story he`s been compiling..."Confessions of a True and Pure Whore", for which he has great hopes..if only he earns enough to "publish" it.

Later that evening Aprim is back on his corner waiting to see who will take an interest in his plight...when he spies an English gentleman reeling out the Casino, four sheets to the wind. "Come to me", says the drunken Lord, "and I`ll give you anything you ask for...just give ME what I ask for first". They strike a bargain and Aprim goes to the hotel with the Englishman. But again the next morning it`s the same story...respect seems lacking...the Englishman can`t remember what he promised but tips Aprim a goodly amount as he closes the door behind him.

That night another Englishman comes and again Aprim has faith and hope and again he attends to the man`s needs with nationalistic fervor and pride...but once again cruel fate steps in and Aprim is paid off and sent on his way.

That night an American comes out of the Casino, arm and arm with the two English gentlemen who dashed Aprim`s hopes the previous nights..and once again Aprim makes them offers they can`t refuse...and they take him to a motel round the corner where they take turns running him up and down their flagpole...and this time Aprim is certain sure they`ll chip in and give him what he wants...which is nothing more than a little respect for his triangular area...but, ah dear reader...what was his dismay and shock to be once again turned out in the early morning with no more pride than he had the previous mornings.

Several old friends have tried to get him to straighten up and fly right...but Aprim insists he belongs on the street corner, plying his trade, jotting down his history and waiting till the right stranger comes along...for truly, who is more willing to go home with anyone who offers than an "Assyrian" whore?
