...this from the news....

"...Bush's Gallup rating echoed a survey published last week by ABC News and the Washington Post, which put his approval rating at 48%. That poll also found that 56% of Americans believed the Iraq war was not worth fighting. Time magazine also put Bush's overall approval at 49%."

..."not worth fighting". Every "war" of this kind...when we send young soldiers into neighborhoods to kill and rape and humiliate citizens, is going to go this way. At some point, we'll decide it isn't worth the trouble...and the boys who died will indeed have died in vain...so long as we don't learn the real lessons their deaths should teach us.

...what would have been the great harm of waiting for inspections to procede? What a ridiculous set of conclusions were drawn as the inspectors found NO evidence of these WMDs...remember them? We said the very fact that we COULDN'T find anything meant there HAD TO BE weapons there. If we had asked ourselves the simple question of why Saddam hadn't used these weapons in our first war against him..if he was so damn dangerous and trigger happy...we would have settled the issue peacefully...with the realization that he HAD no weapons now because he HAD none then...and if he had them then, didn't use them anyway...so why would he now? The idea that a country devastated by 13 years of sanctions, hundreds of thousands killed, with US military planes and probes and satellites watching their every move could somehow have manufactured these weapons and were now hiding them so effectively that our people swarming right OVER the country couldn't find them and the only way we'd know for sure was to launch a war against neighborhoods and mosques, was too stupid to even contemplate..so we did it.

And what of this democracy hype? Hitler was democratically chosen...so where's the guarantee that democracy, by itself...let alone in a civilized nation such as Germany, is any promise of anything...anything besides mob rule? The Sunnis now refuse to participate...and even if they did, they'd lose...so what good is democracy? By our own Constitution the South had every legal right to leave the Union...and they voted to do so...voted democratically...but they got a war declared against them anyway and were bullied back in. Democracy only has meaning after a long, long list of pre-requisites have been met fairly well...it means nothing at all otherwise...just a tyranny of the majority where there was once a tyranny of the minority. And everyone connected with this war knew that...they know it already in their "think" tanks. But that isn't what they "think" about...they plot how to subvert reason...stand facts and history on its head and OBSCURE their real intention, which is to make money...gobs and gobs of it. It's what the rest of us are hungering for as well...so we just keep fucking ourselves, using our politicians and generals as the dildos and vibrators of choice.

Of all the sons of bitches in Congress, assuming any of them are human and have human feelings besides greed, only Barbara Lee, the Congresswoman from Oakland, California, must be sleeping well at night. Only ONE AMERICAN voted to spare our dying heroes...spare their parents...spare the nation AND spare the innocent Iraqi people who have just been forced to send more recruits to Al Qaida than they ever wanted to.

We did it to ourseloves...we always do.
