...came Sargon the Great and the Semites and, later, Hammurabi and his Amorites...that has been the tradition in BetNahrain since the beginning. The Sumerians, as far as we know, had the first settled civilization...in time the dessert tribes moved in and took over and were "conquered" in turn by those they subdued...the coming of Islam, also from the dessert, was nothing new or odd or strange. It certainly wasn`t a usurpation. There were no fixed national boundries at the time...just dessert with here and there a city. Hammurabi didn`t "usurp" anything either, he ADDED...that was just the way things developed in BetNahrain..and it`s a good thing too...new blood, new ideas but most of all new energy from a younger, more ambitious and restless people was needed by ALL the city-states...to renew and expand their focus as each of them wore down and wore out. It`s immigrants that have made America a great nation, at one time.

No one could keep their culture going indefinitely and not even for very long if they had the kind of PURE requirements the boys do. And look what`s left if you allow them to throw each other and the rest of us out...nothing but the silliest, stupidest, least educated or bright among us..and THAT is their idea of a Grat Nayshun? As we don`t weep and wail because there was a Sargon The Great or a Hammurabi, neither of whom were Christian...why do we gnash our teeth and get hysterical when Muhammad came? Just because he was NOT Christian?

Until Islam came to BetNahrain it was being used as a dumping ground by the Byzantines for the heretical sects they weren`t killing...yet. There was constant internal strife between the followers of this bishop and that bishop, usually no more than opportunistic thugs using religion as a means to amass power and wealth. The Muslims put an end to that...forced a truce and in the process allowed these boys their minor variations of Christianity, over which they could no longer kill each other. Indeed, Islam SAVED the boys...because we know what the Byzantines would have done to them had they managed to capture BetNahrain.

Islam and the dessert Arabs infused a new energy and drive into a region exhausted by wars and the lethrgy and inertia of fatalistic Christianity...Islam in its early form was a vigorous, forward-looking and dynamic religion..at least it inspired its followers that way...they brought youth and vigor to a region grown old and musty and now blanketed over with pious cant that couldn`t save its own life if it wanted to. There is no way BetNahrain would have survived as a coherent nation divided and fighting among itself over a Jew religion but they would have been subdued and manhandled by somebody, in their case by the Byzantines...and thank Ashur THAT didn`t happen

What`s the big fuss?
